Full Job Description
The Practice Development and Education Lead (PDEL) will provide a pivotal role in ensuring alignment of department, directorate, divisional and corporate (Trust-wide) practice development, education and training activities for non-medical staff. The post holder is required to support informed investment of educational resources in meeting service needs and priorities that benefits patients and staff. In addition, the post holder will lead in the identification of education and training needs of staff and plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members of non-medical staff (Band 2-7) within their directorate in NOTSSCaN Division.
Explicit within the role and the outcomes required of it, the PDEL will work collegiately to ensure standards are established, implemented and sustained, particularly those related to staff knowledge, skills development, service improvement and patient safety.
The post-holder will demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills commensurate with a clinical expert and effective leader and manager; serve as a credible role-model; an agent of change and a facilitator of work-based learning., · The post holder will work minimum of 40% of their time as supernumerary (not in the standard staffing numbers) working with students, new starters, and existing staff especially those who are doing post graduate studies and research. Providing support, education and opportunities for staff development and career guidance and offer regular feedback.
The PDEL will work maximum of 60% of their time leading and managing the Nursing Education Team in their department (Neuro ICU): Being the primary Lead for the Education Team; reviewing and developing education activities; leading in-house training and programmes delivery; attending meetings relating to practice development and education activities/programmes.
In conjunction with other ACPEs, CPEs, Unit Manager and Team Leaders, Matrons and the Divisional Lead for Practice Development and Education in NOTSSCaN Division, the PDEL will participate and contribute to the annual review and development of the strategic education plan for non-medical staff.

+ Ensure utilisation of the Oxford Model for exemplary professional nursing and midwifery practice and the NHS Change Model in promoting practice development and education for all non-medical staff as the means by which quality improvement is systematic, goal-focused, measured in its implementation and relevant to the area of clinical practice.
+ Lead in the identification of training and education needs, plan, implement and evaluate educational activities for students, new starters and existing members of the non-medical staff.
+ Lead the development and implementation of education initiatives in particular the orientation, preceptorship and practice supervision and assessment programmes for students and new members of staff.
+ Develop and evaluate competency-based programmes for non-medical staff in the department.
+ Utilise coaching and mentoring skills in the development of others, provide support, education and opportunities for development and career guidance and offer regular feedback to staff.
+ Participate in and contribute to research and local, national and international quality and service improvement projects as appropriate.
