The maternity service at The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust are looking for an additional practice development midwife to support our preceptorship midwives, international midwives, return to practice midwives and student midwives.

The postholder will be a highly motivated and experienced clinical midwife who will focus on the provision of leadership and clinical advice to support and promote excellence in safe, evidenced-based practice for our midwives. The postholder will assist the service in supporting our midwives in clinical practice, developing their confidence and competence. The post holder will work closely with the other members of the Practice Development Team, providing teaching, support and pastoral care.

In addition, the postholder will support the Maternity unit in its training and development programmes for all clinical staff.

The post holder will receive a full orientation and access to ongoing development on successful appointment., The Practice Development Midwife (PDM) is an expert practitioner of Midwifery will be a role model for midwives, maternity support workers (MSWs) and maternity nurses within the maternity department, as well as being a source of expert midwifery knowledge.

The Practice Development Midwife is a leadership role within the Trust, specifically responsible for the continuing professional development of Midwives MSWs and maternity nurses.

The Practice Development Midwife will be responsible for the advanced clinical support and development of midwifery staff working both in hospital and the community settings. This includes maintaining an up-to-date register of continuing education for maternity staff.

An integral part of the role will be the provision of clinical and professional advice ensuring optimal use of midwives' skills.

They will liaise closely with the Director of Midwifery, Consultant Midwife, Obstetric Team, Midwifery Matrons/Managers and University of West London regarding training needs for staff.

The Practice Development Midwife will lead the coordination of the mandatory maternity training and the in-situ drills and skills.

They will work alongside midwives in clinical practice who need additional support and will also assess the learning needs of preceptorship midwives, international midwives, return to practice midwives and student midwives.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust's services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.
