Full Job Description
NHS England have developed and launched the Aspirant Cancer Career and Education Development (ACCEND) programme. The programme provides guidance on knowledge, skills, and capabilities required by all non-medical health care professionals who care for people living with cancer.The post holder will be a nurse/AHP and will work with the Trust Lead Cancer Nurse, Lead Cancer AHP, and Line managers to support implementation of the ACCEND framework and help to embed it into current processes for the existing and future cancer workforce. This role is 22.5 hours.The role is to provide expert advice, knowledge, guidance and support to the cancer workforce. This will be achieved through a combination of coaching, mentoring, pedagogical guidance and support, to enable cancer clinicians to evidence their ACCEND capabilities and thrive in their role.The post holder will organise their own time and work autonomously.The post holder will ensure evidence-based practice and bridge the gap between research,
theory, policy and practice. They will support the Trust to optimise opportunities in cancer education and development and support the Lead Cancer Nurse to provide assurance to Cancer Board that the cancer workforce are achieving their ACCEND capabilities in a supportive and constructive way, with the risk to service delivery from releasing clinical staff for CPD being carefully managed.
Main duties of the job
This project role is funded by SWAG Cancer Alliance for 23 months and plans to focus on the development of practice learning by developing supportive learning environment for the cancer care workforce, create resources to support managers and developing ACCEND champions/mentors, and attract and retain staff by offering structured professional development.
1. Perform a baseline survey
2. Introduce ACCEND self-assessment tool for all new staff and current staff.
3. Attend CNS, AHP, CSW, registered workforce, administration meetings to better support the workforce and hear direct feedback.
4. Support lead nurses and line managers to align annual performance reviews with ACCEND framework.
5. Actively promote community of practice for people to share learning and experiences.
6. Cancer training and education calendar/e-portfolio and ACCEND training programme available via a digital system.
7. Blended learning approach - promote ACCEND digital resources, placement resources and in-house learning, promote self-directed learning by increasing awareness of UWE PGCert in Cancer Care, Macmillan learning hub modules aligned with ACCEND, NHS learning hub, and Guys Cancer Academy.
