Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a Practice Educator for our Acute Medical Units in UHD.

  • The post holder will be a nurse with advanced clinical skills and an expert knowledge base, who will be responsible for the educational development of our Acute Medical Units. The Practice Educator will support the provision of professional leadership for nurses and Health Care Assistants working in the directorate

  • The Post Holder will be expected to work alongside staff during their shift to sign off competencies and aid training and development for all nurses.

  • A key element of the role will be the identification of the learning and development needs of Nursing and Healthcare staff working in Acute Medicine.

  • Developing a learning framework and competencies to be used in supporting and signing off Core Clinical competencies and specific skills identified by Acute Medicine.


  • The post holder will also contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures within their sphere of responsibility,

    There is a planned move for this service during October 2025when thisrole and base of work will relocate to Bournemouth site. Upon relocation of the role/service, excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with Trust/National terms and conditions.

    The post holder will be a nurse or allied health professional with advanced clinical skills and an expert knowledge base. To lead in planning, facilitating and implementing continuous professional development and education of all members of staff in a positive learning environment. The Post Holder will be expected to work alongside staff during their shift to sign off competencies and aid training and development. A key element of the role will be the identification of the learning and development needs of Nursing and AHP staff with the Acute Medical Unit. Developing a learning framework and competencies to be used in supporting and signing off Core Clinical competencies and specific skills identified by Acute Medicine. To provide a rolling educational programme equipping health care professionals with knowledge and skills required to detect critically ill patients. To integrate policies, education, practise development and research relevant to the clinical
    area. Act as a resource and advisor for future service developments and Trust-wide training and education. To act as a self-directed practitioner, providing support and guidance for staff working within the Acute Medical Unit.
