Full Job Description
The Pre-Operative Assessment Clinic (POAC) Nurse is responsible for the Pre-Operative assessment of patients being prepared for a variety of surgical procedures ensuring patients are physically and emotionally prepared for their surgery and delivering high standards of nursing care. The Pre-Assessment Nurses role is essential to ensure that patients who require surgery are supported, well informed in relation to the planned surgery, pre and post-operative care and that their pathway is as efficient as possible. The post holder will be required to provide specialist advice, which is an integral part of the role. This ensures that patients undergoing surgery receive the appropriate care, to ensure the highest outcomes and reduce the risk of theatre cancellations. We have band 5 opportunities within our Nurse led Pre-Assessment service.
- The post covers two Pre-Assessment sites within the UHB in UHW and UHL. The role involves covering both sites, depending on service needs. We are looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated nurse who will possesses excellent communication skills and enjoys a challenge. There will be opportunity for future development and promotion to a band 6 CNS, once competencies are met and experienced gained. There will be opportunity to complete further specialised training. Progression to the band 6 role is subject to the normal interview process., The role includes: -
- Comprehensive patient assessment to assess a patients fitness and risk to proceed with anaesthetic and surgery.
- Additional skills include venepuncture, ECG and interpretation, an understanding of test interpretation, heart and lung auscultation.
- The ability to prioritise your workload and escalate concerns effectively and appropriately.
- Working closely with all disciplines of staff to ensure the promotion of high standards of Pre-Operative assessment.
- Develop and utilise specialist skills encompassing a wide range of surgical specialities.
- To undertake responsibilities without direct supervision but supported by the Clinical Leader.
Promote Pre-Operative Assessment and Clinical Excellence. We are looking to recruit a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated nurse who will possesses excellent communication skills and enjoys a challenge. The post covers two Pre-Assessment sites within the UHB in UHW and UHL. The role involves covering both sites, depending on service needs. (Currently UHL location on hold due to current climate). - The service covers a wide range of Surgical Specialties, in a Developing Department. You will need extensive knowledge of surgical care and the ability to work both independently and as part of a Team. Informal department visits are welcomed. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
