Full Job Description

Work with the multi-disciplinary teams including specialist midwives, obstetricians and neonatologists to promote team working, review, plan, and implement the elements of the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle version 3 and future versions. Champion and embed a culture within the unit to improve the quality of care and outcomes for women and their babies. Ensuring the Trust has robust and evidence-based care pathways and policies to support delivery of national ambitions to reduced perinatal morbidity and mortality. The Saving Babies Lives Midwife will participate actively in local and regional networks, teaching and research to improve education and implementation. The role will involve working with the education leads for maternity to embed the knowledge and skills from a comprehensive competency framework, including learning from local incidents. Main duties of the job

  • Plan, implement, review and maintain requirements for elements of the Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle version 3'.
  • Use improvement framework tools to ensure that improvements are measured and change is evaluated.
  • Ensure that the specified process and outcome measures for the SBLCBv3 elements are available and tracked
  • Be a key member of the team on the perinatal mortality review tool (PMRT) review board and ATAIN where required.
  • Implement elements of the new Saving Babies Care bundle v3 and any future updates
  • Report any incidents / accidents to the clinical governance lead / Midwifery Manager / labour ward co-ordinator for the day as appropriate and complete InPhase forms.

  • Postgraduate qualification / studies in relevant field
  • Desirable criteria
  • Leadership / management qualification.
  • PMA or have an interest in completing the longer professional midwifery advocate (PMA) course
  • Experience Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of Health Promotion and Public Health Agenda
  • Confident and competent in providing antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal midwifery care.
  • Knowledgeable in the Saving Babies Lives Care bundle
  • Understanding and application of the principles of professional accountability and confidentiality
  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of CTG interpretation and intermittent auscultation
  • Desirable criteria Experience in leading and nurturing of a team Skills Essential criteria
  • Leadership & management skills
  • Competent in IT & able to produce detailed and accurate reports.
  • Able to work both independently and autonomously as well as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
