Full Job Description

The postholder will be a strategic lead for Public Health and will report directly to the Director of Public Health. The postholder will lead in the critical delivery of public health programmes supporting Senior Leaders of the Council, whilst ensuring all strategies are delivered for the benefit of members of the public in a complex and challenging environment. The postholder will oversee the work of the Health and Wellbeing Board, lead on healthy work and mitigating poverty and other specific programmes dependent on the current needs of the directorate.

The postholder may be required from time to time to deputise for the Director of Public Health.

The postholder will be responsible for line managing teams, ensuring competent skills knowledge transfer and maintaining robust advice and support to members of the team, across the organisation and to advise third parties in relation to public health initiatives whilst setting standards which accord with the Council's Vision.

The postholder will be operating at the level of a newly-qualified Consultant in Public Health to enable an application to be a Consultant in Public Health through the UKPHR's Specialist Registration by Portfolio Assessment. The postholder will need to make a portfolio application and adhere to the requirements of continuing professional development, ethical management of self, and 360^o appraisal as required by UKPHR.

The postholder will be expected to lead programmes of work covering all aspects of Public Health: health intelligence and evidence, health promotion, health strategy and policy, health protection, screening, and academic public health, and include the wider determinants of health and approaches to reducing health inequalities.

The postholder will be a key member of the Public Health Senior Leadership Team who will work at a strategic level with system leaders across Dudley Council and partner organisations, ensuring collaborative working, building networks across the Black Country to influence, steer and lead transformational change.
