Full Job Description

We are seeking to recruit Primary Mental Health Practitioners to support the ongoing development and delivery of CAMHS Primary Mental Health Service. You will work independently and with the team to support the mental health needs of children and young people across Sheffield and with partners in the local authority and third sector, predominantly in the community.

Key tasks include being the first point of contact for referrals, independently conducting consultations, assessing and formulating joint plans of support alongside the case holder. This includes screening, providing expert clinical advice and signposting.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within an innovative team focused on early intervention and prevention within CAMHS. We are looking for a candidate with experience in working within child and adolescent mental health services with a broad range of therapy approaches to treatment. The flexibility, autonomy and creativity of the role should suit your skills set.

Well established support and supervision will be provided, and further professional development is actively encouraged and supported. The post will provide a wide range of experience and allow the candidate to further develop transferable skills.

You will join a CAMH service which provides regional and national specialist services through direct patient care, consultation and supervision.

Main duties of the job

You will be the first point of contact for referrals into this service, independently conducting consultations, assessments, and formulating joint plans of support alongside the case holder. This includes screening for mental health difficulties in children, providing expert clinical advice to other professionals and families and signposting to relevant services or interventions.

In addition, you will collaborate with a range of professionals to provide support to staff in their work with young people and ensure holistic care.

At Sheffield Children's, our purpose is clear: to provide healthier futures for children and young people. Our three strategic aims are:
1. Outstanding Patient Care

1. Brilliant Place to work

1. Leaders in Children's Health

We work successfully with local, regional, and national partners to provide physical and mental healthcare across acute and community settings. Many of our clinicians are amongst the best in their field, recognised nationally and internationally for their expertise.

As well as having enormous pride in what we do, we are a friendly, welcoming, and motivated NHS Trust who are guided by our CARE values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. Our nearly 4000 colleagues live these values, ensuring kind and compassionate care that makes patients and their families feel safe and at home.

As we approach our 150th anniversary in 2026, we remain committed to enhancing our reputation in children's health leadership, improving the experiences of both patient and colleagues, and focusing on our communities and population health.
