Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced analyst to join the innovative Data Analytics team at Somerset Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will act as a partner to the Trust's Operational Service Groups, provide guidance on analytics matters and will be an ambassador for the Data Analytics Team. They will work closely and collaboratively with other Digital Services teams to support joint programmes of work. The post holder will also line manage a small team of analystsand will act as a mentor to junior members of the team,helping to shape career paths and talent profiles andproviding day to day technical guidance and direction. It's an exciting time to join the team as we invest in the Trust's brand new data infrastructure, embracing open source tools such as Python, R, and Git, and enhancing the training and professionalisation offerings for our analysts. We have an ambitious plan to transform the team into a leading analytics organisation within the NHS, and to fully take advantage of the Trust's upcoming EPR procurement and implementation to benefit the population of Somerset. This role offers a hybrid model of work with a minimum of 1 day per week on-site in either of our Taunton Deane House or Yeovil Hospital offices. In addition the successful candidate will be expected to attend face to face meetings as and when required. Main duties of the job The post holder will be required to :

  • Work closely with the Service Group Partners, Data Engineering and Analytics team members to lead on the development of a wide range of reports and dashboards to support the business needs of the Trust.
  • Pro-actively identify opportunities to maximise analytical capabilities of the team and play a key role in enabling the use of data analysis to empower decision making.
  • Provide support for managers and clinicians in the interpretation of analyses, dashboards and reports and develop standards within Information Services team to ensure consistent high quality and accuracy of the Analytics Team Deliverables.
  • Build and interrogate complex datasets and access multiple systems, using appropriate tools and techniques to provide accurate and consistent outputs.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate dataflows to support routine reporting processes and lead on programmes of work to realise these benefits.
  • Provide mentoring and annual appraisals to the members of the team for which the post holder holds line management responsibility.

    Essential
  • Degree qualification or equivalent knowledge and experience in a numerate discipline plus additional specialist knowledge acquired through post graduate diploma level or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional and personal development.
  • Desirable
  • Financial qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Certification or evidence of undertaking courses in relevant analytics languages SQL.
  • Experience Essential
  • Specialist knowledge of information systems which includes the ability to operate and manipulate data from a database in order to write and present clear, concise reports containing performance and statistical information.
  • Excellent understanding of NHS data definitions, standards and information requirements across the NHS.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to reconcile data accurately and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Desirable
  • Knowledge of NHS systems.
  • Sound knowledge of business intelligence tools and systems.
  • Knowledge of Data protection Act, IG and Caldicott requirements and principles.
  • Experience of working with Microsoft BI stack, SSRS, SSAS, PowerBI., Ability to specify data capture and reporting system requirements and work with Information System developers in order to aid in the development and testing of such systems.
  • Ability to write complex SQL scripts and build integrated solutions for routine dataflows.
  • Ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical staff including presentations to groups.
  • Experience of managing a busy workload with conflicting priorities.
  • Demonstrable capability to plan over short, medium and long-term timeframes and adjust plans and resource requirements accordingly.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to anticipate and resolve problems before they arise.
  • Acquires and applies the knowledge, skills and best practice to enable them to consistently meet customer demands with the promotion of high standards.
