Full Job Description

We are looking for a self- motivated Principal Auditor to join our diverse Internal Audit Service. WHAT IS INVOLVED As Principal Auditor you will work alongside an already well-established team of audit professionals to deliver outstanding audit services to a wide-ranging portfolio of internal and external clients. The Internal Audit Service works closely alongside the Corporate Fraud Team, Risk, Governance and Insurance Services in the delivery of their work. We are looking for an audit specialist who has a risk based approach to audit planning and delivery, and someone who has the confidence to convey sensitive information in a timely and professional manner. In order to support the provision of the annual internal audit opinion on the overall adequacy and effectiveness of our governance, risk and control framework, building and managing relationships with stakeholders across the council will be essential. Reporting directly to the Internal Audit Manager you will be responsible for the managing internal audit staff, including the allocation and scoping of internal audit assignments as well as preparing and presenting audit reports to Senior Managers across a broad portfolio of internal and external clients. This is an extremely varied role requiring an adaptable, responsive approach, you will work to timescales and deadlines ensuring information is provided in an informative and solution focused format., Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer. You should have AAT, PIIA, Part qualified CCAB, or other relevant qualification and professional membership and have demonstrable experience of providing relevant services to clients within public sector organisations.
