Full Job Description

The Fissile Material Campus Programme (FMC) is a £multi-billion investment in new capability at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). KBR is one of several partners within the Programme Initiation Partnership (PIP) supporting the establishment of the programme. The nuclear lifecycle workstream will work with the ESH, Operations, Technical and project teams to ensure that that the programme goals are delivered in the most effective manner possible whilst complying with statutory requirement. Responsibilities Defence Sector Expertise:

  • Apply your deep understanding of the defence sector's unique requirements, particularly within the UK's nuclear environment, to deliver tailored solutions that meet both client and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute to and lead the coordination of multidisciplinary teams in delivering project goals within the constraints of defence-specific regulations, standards, and security measures.
  • Ensure that project deliverables align with MOD (Ministry of Defence) and UK regulatory standards, including those set by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
  • Risk and Change Management:
  • Lead the identification, assessment, and management of risks related to nuclear safety and project execution, ensuring that proactive mitigation strategies are in place.
  • Support clients through the change management process, addressing technical, organizational, and safety-related impacts resulting from project decisions.
  • Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with senior-level clients, regulatory bodies, and key stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the project.
  • Provide expert recommendations on complex safety issues, ensuring that all stakeholders understand the safety case rationale and the strategic benefits of recommended actions.
  • Facilitate high-level meetings and presentations to communicate technical and strategic information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
  • Lead cross-functional teams of consultants, engineers, and safety specialists, ensuring effective collaboration and delivery of project goals.
  • Mentor and develop junior consultants, providing guidance on both technical and consulting skill development.
  • Contribute to the development of thought leadership within the nuclear defence sector by authoring white papers, case studies, and leading workshops.

    Applied Understanding of Nuclear Safety in a Defence Environment: Demonstrable experience in nuclear safety cases within the defence sector, ensuring alignment with both MOD and regulatory standards.
  • Strategic Requirements Management Throughout the Project Lifecycle: Proven experience in managing strategic requirements from project inception through completion, ensuring projects meet all technical, operational, and regulatory objectives. This role offers the opportunity to work on some of the most complex and impactful projects within the UK's nuclear and defence sectors. Technical Skills/Knowledge
  • Understanding of systems thinking and interlinkage of complex capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations, with experience in ensuring that projects meet safety and environmental standards.
  • Ability to motivate and lead project personnel, including coordinating activities and ensuring alignment with project goals.
