Full Job Description

Are you an experienced senior ecologist with a proven track record in consultancy? Do you want to be part of a senior leadership team and to be at the forefront as we build and grow an ambitious team? Do you want to take on a diverse portfolio of work with projects in different sectors including public Sector, water companies, residential and commercial development, renewables and infrastructure?, At APEM, we are actively seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Principal Ecologist to join our close knit ecology team. In this role, we will be looking to you to be the team leader for the south of England as we grow and expand. Alongside team management and growth, your responsibilities will include producing excellent reports, exploring new tender opportunities, and actively contributing to business development and marketing initiatives. Supported by our experienced team, you'll be part of our senior UK ecology division that feeds into our strategic decision making. This is an excellent opportunity to not only enhance your skills and expertise but also act as a mentor to junior staff. To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Ability provide the business with authoritative ecological advice and innovative mitigation solutions/enhancement considerations across a range of sites and schemes with varying levels of environmental and ecological sensitivities.
  • Up to date overview of EU and UK legislation pertaining to ecology and environmental issues, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Ecological Impact Assessments and planning regulations.
  • Assist with expanding and managing the current terrestrial ecology portfolio within APEM and to represent it externally.
  • Able to undertake survey work as and when necessary and appropriate, leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects.
  • A track record in, or aspirations for, continuing professional development and supporting the development/ management of junior ecologists
