Full Job Description

The role will involve leading the low voltage electrical design and consultancy services for nationally significant clients, supporting technical leads on complex engineering projects. The individual will have excellent communication skills, an eye for detail and experience with - or interest in - all aspects of electrical design. A typical day could include activities like:

  • Chair a monthly project review call to present the client with design updates and report financial performance.

  • Checking a junior team members electrical design for a market trader pop-up power supply design.

  • Partake in an internal lunchtime meet & greet in the office to promote the team and aid business development.

  • Liaise with internal colleagues with regards a new project. Understand scope required and prepare a cost of works to cover desired scope.

  • Provide internal financial reports and updates for all active projects you are leading on.

  • Perform an annual appraisal and set next year's development goals for a junior staff member


  • Experience with the following software packages whilst desirable is not essential:
  • AutoCAD

  • Trimble Amtech ProDesign

  • Membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) or equivalent institution of your choice and mentoring and support with further Engineering Council registration

  • CPD opportunities and support in attending (and participating in) industry recognised events and seminars

    We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual with a keen engineering mind. While all engineering backgrounds and levels of experience will be considered, individuals with some or all of the following attributes are particularly desirable:

  • Experience leading design teams and taking responsibility for the technical output, plus the programme and financial performance of their work packages.

  • Able to demonstrate all aspects of project involvement from initial costings at bid stage through to full detailed design and supporting client handover.

  • Track record of performing to a high standard whilst undertaking low voltage electrical design preferably within the UK transportation sector.

  • Knowledge and experience of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure design and lighting electrical design.

  • Registration with the Engineering Council, to minimum IEng or preferably CEng.

  • Hold City & Guilds 18 th Edition Wiring Regulation certification (C&G 2382)., Are ambitious and interested in becoming part of the WSP team.

  • Are excited about engineering challenges and suit a problem-solving role.

  • Have experience, or interest in electrical design, delivery and construction.

  • Are a confident and organised individual who suits a high volume, fast-paced work environment.

  • Can demonstrate interpersonal, organisational, analytical, technical and communication skills.

  • Are familiar with the relevant standards and guidance applicable to electrical works.

  • Have experience with electrical design software, Autodesk and Microsoft Office packages.

  • Have, or are able to show potential in developing, an understanding of the CDM Regulations and financial and contractual risk.
