As a Principal Engineer in the Fusion and Advances Reactor team, you'll be responsible for a vast range of projects and innovation initiatives. Lead and develop talented multi-disciplinary teams. Work closely with clients and stakeholders, helping to shape the change that has a tangible, sustainable impact on the world. Working within our Fusion and Advanced Reactor team, you'll be joining an aspiring group who are delivering projects across the advanced reactor design and fusion markets; all of which demand a multi-disciplinary approach to deliver solutions to problems that have not yet been broached in the nuclear engineering industry., The UK is the first major economy to legislate for a Net Zero target by 2050. Essential Experience:

  • A relevant engineering degree or equivalent.

  • Established track-record and proven experience leading multi-discipline projects from concept through to completion.

  • Experience of leading highly technical teams involving disciplines such as mechanical, process EC&I delivering equipment designs.

  • Established capability in originating and progressing designs from concept through to detailed design, to a given set of requirements and constraints.

  • Generating high quality technical documentation, for example engineering calculations, specifications, datasheets and technical reports.

  • Knowledge and experience in relevant industry standards and regulations.

  • Knowledge and experience in at least one of the following engineering disciplines: heat transfer, structural hand calculations, finite element analysis, and design for manufacture.

  • Experience in at least one of the following technical areas: thermal power cycles, heat transfer, fluid flow, structural hand calculations, design codes and standards, finite element analysis, design for manufacture, manufacturing techniques, practical vacuum technology, cryogenic systems, or installation of mechanical systems.

  • A strong can-do approach to work and able to communicate at all levels of the business and with customers.


  • Desirable Experience:
  • Experience in the design, development, and construction of test rigs or design validation projects requiring integration of mechanical, electrical systems, instrumentation, and control systems.

  • Appreciation and application in working with design standards.

  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and the ability to apply V&V techniques across different phases of product development.

  • Experience in producing bids and proposals or placing contracts with industry.

  • Experience in project management, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

  • Chartered status with the IMechE (or equivalent institution).
