Job Title: Principal Technology Development Engineer
Location: Barrow-In-Furness, Bristol, or Frimley (Hybrid – 2/3 days minimum on site). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – please speak to your recruiter about the options for this role.
Salary: Negotiable dependant on experience
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting project teams to manage activities, performance and reporting for a range of R&D projects within the Technology Management portfolio
- Providing advice to project technical leads and team members on the development of R&D proposals, and subsequent mobilisation and delivery of those projects
- Ensuring R&D projects are managed correctly, reporting progress at key stage gate reviews, and keeping all stakeholders informed
- Coordinating monthly financial and progress reviews and reporting for a range of R&D projects within the Technology Management portfolio
- Maintaining a watch on maturing and emerging technologies that may be of interest to the business, including regular contact with partner universities
- Supporting updates to our Technology Strategy, highlighting those technologies and capabilities that are important to our business
- Encouraging and supporting the submission of ideas for new R&D projects
Your skills and experiences:
Essential
- STEM related degree or equivalent experience
- Management of engineering projects involving the introduction of new technologies
- Experience working on large or complex engineering projects
- Self-motivated with excellent communication skills
- Chartership, or evidence or working towards
- Experience of stakeholder engagement

The Technology Management Team:
Our team are responsible for informing and implementing the BAE Systems Submarines Technology Strategy, identifying business challenges and opportunities, and the key technologies that could address them, then coordinating and facilitating the R&D activities to mature those technologies. As part of Technology Management, you will gain exposure to all areas and functions of the business and have the opportunity to engage with colleagues at all levels of seniority. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.
