  • Supervising and conductinganalysis and experiments to support systemqualification Supporting progression of designoptimisation Producing and reviewing radiological safetyjustifications for proposed design solutions Directdevelopment of in-house toolsets in support of the departmentgoals Leadingdetailed shield design, balancing build requirements alongsidesystem performance requirements

    Relevant STEM degree inPhysics/Mathematics/Chemistry/NuclearEngineering Demonstrable experience ofradiation transport codes such asMCNP/MCBEND/Attilla Understanding of radiationphysics Experience of radiationsafety studies & behaviours Experience of radiationmetrology Knowledge of the ALARPprinciple

The Radiation Physics& Shielding team: Our team is responsible forthe design and validation of radiation shielding for the UK'snuclear powered submarine fleet. We are engaged across threedifferent submarine programmes in different stages of theengineering lifecycle designing new shields, providing designchange assessment into the build programme, and conductingradiation metrology on-board during commissioning. Alongside ourprimary work we conduct radiological safety studies for severalother areas, design novel radiation detectors and are developingcapability in the field of radiation damage to electronics.
