Principal Engineer - Transport Development

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Principal Engineer to join our Highways and Transport Delivery Team. As Principal Engineer the successful candidate will lead the Transport Delivery Team and be responsible for the design and delivery of schemes within the Council's Integrated Transport Programme and other externally funded projects. Scheme disciplines will include Road Safety Engineering, Public Realm, Walking and Cycling, Parking and minor works, among others. The successful candidate will also bring innovation and experience to the team and ensure quality engagement with our residents and stakeholders.
Main responsibilities;
- To manage and oversee the design and delivery of the Council's Integrated Transport Programme and other disciplines from a range of different funding streams.
- To lead, mentor and manage the team through the delivery of schemes ensuring compliance with good practice and legislation.
- Identify future works programmes and the management of associated budgets.

A Road Safety Engineering qualification and experience of delivering successful accident reduction schemes.
- An in-depth knowledge of the Road Traffic Regulation Act, Highways Act, Traffic Management Act and other legislation relevant to the nature of the role.
- The ability to prepare briefs and cost estimates for works and provide management reports and information including performance indicators.
- Experience of leading and motivating a team, ensuring the effective management of contractors and efficient design and delivery of highway improvement schemes.
- The ability to correspond with Members and stakeholders in a professional and timely manner and draft reports, which may sometimes be of a complex nature.
