Full Job Description

Arkema Inc. is seeking to fill a Principal Environmental Engineer within the corporate Environmental Compliance team. The position is predominantly a consulting role since each site has ultimate responsibility for environmental compliance. The job holder reports to the Regional Environmental Manager and will occasionally receive guidance from the Director of Environmental Compliance. This position has no formal direct reports. This position supports Arkema facilities in the USA Gulf Coast states of Texas, Louisiana, Alabama and/or Florida and shall be based out of one of these areas. Support may be needed in other areas within the Americas region on occasion as well. Regular travel is required in this role, typically expected at 25% of time, and primarily domestic within US. KEY ACTIVITIES: 50% Manufacturing Support

  • Identifies informational requirements necessary to develop company-wide strategies to address sensitive or complex issues.
  • Develops innovative permit/compliance strategies for major regulations to minimize financial and operational impact on the Corporation and implements compliance / program initiatives and environmental assessments across business and operating functions.
  • Develops unique and in-depth approaches to solving complex issues and provides technical evaluations of pending legislation to lobby efforts.
  • Evaluates international environmental initiatives against Corporate environmental strategic plan.
  • Provide a variety of environmental engineering services to Arkema manufacturing facilities including permit development/strategy, agency negotiation, engineering calculations, design reviews, training etc.
  • Coordinating and performing environmental audits at both Arkema manufacturing facilities and at vendor locations which provide specialized services to the company.
  • Direct and manage environmental consultants to accomplish environmental Corporate or plant projects.
  • Engage, train, and motivate facility professionals responsible for carrying out environmental compliance, capital project support, and sustainable development at Arkema facilities.
  • 50% Corporate Environmental Responsibilities
  • Governmental lobbying, communication, implementation and related activities concerning federal and state environmental regulatory actions and/or proposals.
  • Tracking and addressing environmental performance metrics and criteria (i.e. permit excursions, fines, penalties, deficiency notifications, corrective actions, etc.) at company manufacturing locations.
  • Lead negotiations with Federal, State, Local agencies and community organizations regarding environmental requirements at Arkema facilities in order to achieve reasonable and justifiable results which are consistent with the corporate strategy. This may need to be accomplished utilizing support from other senior management personnel within Arkema such as the Law, Technology and Public Affairs Departments.
  • Establish and implement environmental objectives for Arkema Inc. which align with worldwide Arkema objectives and allow for sustainable growth. Communicate objectives to stakeholders including top management and business groups and report results.
  • Represent Arkema Inc. in organizations such as American Chemical Council and other relevant associations.
  • KEY REQUIREMENTS:
  • 10 years experience in the environmental engineering field along with a strong familiarity with the chemical manufacturing industry.
  • Position requires a Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering (or related) Bachelor's degree. Master's or advanced degree preferred.
  • Advanced auditing skills in manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Requires comprehensive technical, regulatory and program expertise in all aspects of environmental management associated with complex chemical manufacturing and treatment/control technologies.
  • Should be a recognized corporate/industry-wide authority.
  • Advanced skills in spreadsheets, illustrating data and utilizing environmental software.
  • KEY COMPETENCIES:
  • Advanced written and oral communication skills to develop concise reports and presentations on complex technical matters and major program initiatives.
  • Advanced auditing, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task, along with the capability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively negotiate with regulatory agency officials, and while conducting audits and relaying audit findings.
  • Collaborate with, motivate and influence, variety of internal and external stakeholders across.
