Full Job Description

We have a vacancy for an experienced Genetic Counsellor to work at Principal level within our Education and Training team. This post combines a clinical, managerial and education role. It has been created particularly to be a training officer for the STP Genomic Counselling programme and to contribute to the strategy for and delivery of Genetic Counsellor Training in the West Midlands, Central and South region. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of the Genomics Academy and associated resources for training nationally., The post holder will be based at Birmingham Women's Hospital and hold clinics in the West Midlands region. Clinically the role can encompass cancer and/or general genetics with the opportunity to develop or foster an area of specialist interest.

This post is an integral part of the Genetic Counsellor management team and the post holder will contribute to leading our compassionate team of genetic counsellors, genomics associates, genomic practitioners and nurse specialists in genetics in conjunction with the Principal and Consultant Genetic Counsellors and Lead Consultant GC.

As a Principal genetic counsellor the successful applicant will make a key contribution to the strategic direction of the genetic counselling and clinical service through supported roles in management, education, training, research and service improvement.

The successful candidate will be a GCRB or HCPC Registered Genetic Counsellor (or overseas equivalent) with significant experience of genetic counselling. Experience of education, leadership, service development and management are advantageous. Applicants should have a particular enthusiasm for influencing and delivering the training of Genetic Counsellors as this is a key part of the role.
