Full Job Description

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This is a progressive opportunity to work within a supportive team environment, where you will utilise your skills and enthusiasm to develop, integrate and test mission critical systems, at the cutting edge of their domain. Day-to-day, you'll provide oversight and technical assurance across multiple engineering projects, challenging the status quo. The engineering activities range from continued support to the overhaul and operation of a broad range of complex assets, upgrade projects to naval platform capability and support to future bid opportunities.

  • Approving of mechanical engineering deliverables, i.e. technical documentation, Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and technical drawings, operating instructions.
  • Concept setting out, including material selection, and scoping calculations.
  • Leading on the full lifecycle engineering experience / awareness.
  • Leading defining test instructions along with reviewing and interpreting results.
  • Sharing knowledge and understanding of the non-conformance and change request processes.
  • This role is full time, 37 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with working days onsite and working days working from home.

    Essential Experience of the Principal Mechanical Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineering capabilities including design for manufacture, validation through hand calculation.
  • Able to supervise, co-ordinate or work within a team providing guidance across multiple projects and disciplines.
  • Ability to use systems engineering design processes and adapt them to suit an application.
  • Experienced user of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) systems for design, modelling, simulation and draughting.
  • Qualifications for the Principal Mechanical Engineer
  • Mechanical Engineering Degree, or Higher National Certificates (HNCs) and Higher National Diplomas (HNDs) in Mechanical Engineering Discipline with demonstrable experience and capability of working in a Senior role.
  • Security Clearance The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role. However, the successful candidate will be allowed to start on Standard (BPSS) security clearance with the intention to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance.
