Full Job Description

Can you lead positive change for consumers in the Digital space?,

  • Reporting to the Head of Digital & Fraud Policy, you'll be a senior member of the Digital and Scam Policy team responsible for defining and driving strategy and leading key Digital Policy areas; with line management responsibilities of Policy Advisers.

  • We are looking for a Principal Policy Adviser with a proven background in fraud, skilled in developing strategy, in delivering robust evidence based policy solutions and in working collaboratively. We anticipate an ambitious team player, looking to expand their portfolio to include a wider digital, data and technology influence.

  • You'll enjoy the autonomy to shape and lead your own policy areas with support from a broad and talented team with all the resources Which? has to offer. You will have authority to commission research, consult with legal resources and work with award winning investigation teams and writers, as well as campaign, and political affairs experts. On an external basis you will be working with industry and government stakeholders across senior levels of authority.

    Good written communication skills, including the ability to distil complex information into concise, clear and persuasive arguments for a range of audiences.

  • A confident team player who can build effective internal and external relationships and who enjoys working in cross-disciplinary teams.

  • A passionate and skilled communicator and influencer who can share complex information with a wide range of audiences.

  • Demonstrable fraud experience, leading policy influence projects end to end. We anticipate supporting you to upskill in the wider portfolio opportunities the role offers.

  • Demonstrable engagement experience across government, industry and the third sector.

  • Experience of working with multi disciplinary teams including with policy advisers, economists, researchers, campaigners, legal, journalists and more

  • A good understanding of the Digital policy landscape including the UK Digital Regulatory landscape, and the Data Protection regime.

  • It would be beneficial if you have additional digital policy experience, particularly in data but this is not essential.

    At Which? our Policy team underpins the work we do to influence and shape consumer issues affecting each of us every day. We have a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Policy Adviser to join us in the Digital & Scams Policy Team.


  • All Which? Policy Advisers think strategically to get to the heart of complex issues, understand and anticipate the policy agenda. We develop evidence based solutions that impact the lives of consumers for the better.

    This role will lead our policy on our work to protect consumers from fraud, recognising that fraud is the most prevalent crime in the UK and the government and business must do everything in their power to stop online criminals reaching consumers. The role will also be developing and championing our policy positions in a variety of other digital areas with a view to influencing government and business for the best outcomes for consumers.

    This is a rare chance to own and manage the development and enablement of policy at the cutting edge of UK consumer interactions with the digital channels, products and services around them - making a real difference to people's lives in this ever evolving landscape.

    This role offers a competitive salary, hybrid working, 28 days holiday a year plus Bank Holidays and 11% pension from the second year!,
  • This role is being offered on a 12-month FTC/Secondment for Maternity cover, we would also be open to offer this role on a part-time basis between 21-35 hours per week


  • Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 (based on full-time 35 hours per week, salary will be pro rata if part time), We also have these benefits for you to consider:

  • Our interview process usually involves 2/3 stages:
  • Initial screening call with x2 members of the team (typically 30 minutes), followed by

  • An interview on Google Meet (approximately 45-90 minutes) consisting of values and experience-based competency questions and a role related task on a laptop

  • There may be a final 20-30 minute video call with our Head of Advoacy
