Full Job Description

As a Principal Project Planner, you will provide professional leadership in planning processes, guiding other planners and ensuring the development of quality project and programme plans. You will validate the component schedules that make up the Portfolio Masterplan. You will manage key interdependencies, and ensure compliance with the functional Portfolio Schedule Management Plan, all while supporting the professional development of the planning resources across the portfolio.,

  • Own and ensure compliance with the Portfolio Schedule Management Plan, promoting unambiguous accountabilities and responsibilities among key stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and progress quality project plans/schedules in line with functional processes and project requirements.
  • Ensure key interdependencies between projects and programmes are monitored and addressed in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness of the Portfolio plans through agreed performance indicators.
  • Validate plans/schedules for completeness and fitness for purpose, in line with the Portfolio Management Plan.
  • Lead and manage the interfaces between the Portfolio an the component projects and schemes, as well as between other project support functions (Risk & Value, Cost Management, etc.).
  • Oversee and ensure contractor schedules comply with procedural and quality requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and functional guidance to the programmes and projects in the Portfolio.
  • Support the professional development of planning resources across the Portfolio.

    Membership of a relevant professional body and/or an established CPD path toward membership.
  • Extensive experience of advocacy and influencing skills that drive improvement across multiple organisations with different objectives.
  • Relevant successful experience in the management, planning, and delivery of major construction/engineering projects.
  • Proficiency in using proprietary planning/scheduling tools.
  • Expertise in project resource management.
  • Strong communication skills and a team player.
  • Good IT user skills., Knowledge of/experience in Network Rail’s planning processes and systems (P6, MS Project).
  • Knowledge of/experience in the UK rail industry.
  • Educated to “A” level standard in mathematics or an information technology-related subject.
