Full Job Description

The Principal Engineer will be responsible for leading the public health design across varying project sizes and sectors, mainly within the UK. This will involve leading project teams to prepare scheme and detailed engineering designs, client care, mentoring, strategic recruitment, as well as supporting bidding work. The successful candidate will have proven design experience, proven experience in leading the PH design discipline/projects, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career. You will also be an integral part of the diverse and dynamic national AECOM PH team which will support your technical career development. Challenges such as the net zero agenda and water neutrality provide great opportunities for your career to flourish with the role also including Fire Protection systems design which will be supported by our experienced specialist fire protection engineering team to provide the opportunity to develop new design skills. You will be required to be based in Manchester office in an agile environment, although other office locations will be considered. Duties include leading the Public Health Engineering design on multi-discipline projects, include the following services:

  • Hot and cold water systems
  • Above ground foul and rainwater system
  • Fire Protection Systems
  • Below Ground drainage systems
  • Pumped drainage systems
  • Rainwater harvesting and Greywater recycling systems
  • Water conservation solutions
  • BREEAM, LEED and Ska Rating design integration

    Previous public health engineering work experience within design consultancy or other relevant business.
  • A comprehensive working knowledge of statutory regulations to ensure design compliance, make submissions to the statutory authorities and obtaining approvals as necessary.
  • Be able to work independently and have good time/task management skills.
  • Regularly base yourself within the AECOM office (Manchester) in order to ensure face-to-face contact time with your team
  • Experience in mixed used, residential and commercial buildings.
  • Competent in the use of Revit software to produce 3D model and 2D output drawings, including Navisworks for drawing reviews.
  • Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations.
  • It would be beneficial to also have the additional working knowledge of the following:
  • Specialist (laboratory) drainage systems
  • Fuel gas systems
  • Medical gases systems
  • Medical vacuum systems
  • Solar thermal hot water systems
  • Borehole water systems
  • Water and oil leak detection systems
  • Sustainable drainage systems
  • Water usage audits
  • Specification and management of drainage surveys
  • Asset condition inspections and reports, HNC or above equivalent in Building Engineering/Public Health Engineering/civil engineering
