Full Job Description

The Council are looking to recruit a Principal Solicitor to join its already experienced team within Legal Services and in return you can expect a rewarding career with an organisation that offers a range of attractive benefits and a friendly, flexible, and supportive work environment You will provide management oversight of a small team and will undertake a wide variety of legal work with particular focus on Contracts and Procurement, and provide a quality and comprehensive legal service to officers, elected Members and other partners.

We are looking for someone who will be fundamental in meeting the Legal Team's vision which is to support the Council in acting lawfully and with high standards of governance to achieve its corporate objectives for the local community. We are looking for someone with enthusiasm and is a team player who can contribute to the wider delivery of the Council's corporate plan.,

  • The ideal candidate will have previous experience within Contracts (reviewing drafting and amending a range of commercial contracts, IT contracts, goods and services, framework agreements, consultancy agreements, funding agreements and public procurement).
  • Experience with commercial property matters such as acquisitions, sales, commercial leases.
  • In addition, you will manage a small legal team, this is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career.
  • The successful candidate will need to be a qualified Solicitor/Barrister/FILEX with a current Practising Certificate.
  • The ideal candidate would be:
  • Able to support the Head of Legal (Deputy Monitoring Officer) in developing and delivering the corporate vision, value and priorities of the Council.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal with officers internally, and externally with courts, barristers, professional bodies, stakeholders and members of the public is essential.
  • Self-motivated with an ability to handle a large and varied complex caseload.
  • Ability to adapt to changing demands and remain solution focussed and provide sound legal advice
  • Have resilience, enthusiasm, personal diplomacy and self-motivation.
