Full Job Description
As the Principal Sonographer you will be responsible for managing all aspects of the ultrasound service provided at Trafford General Hospital and Altringcham Community Hospital, leading a team of sonographers and radiology department assistants.
Supervising senior and junior staff to ensure a high-quality imaging service is consistently provided across the department.
Liaise with other clinicians in other departments to promote good teamwork across departments and directorates and keep up to date with any service developments that may affect Imaging.
Provide guidance and advice to Sonographers who are new to the department and to ensure that new staff have completed all the necessary induction and training to perform the necessary level of competence. To identify any staff who are not performing at the required level and put in place actions plans to ensure that staff are supported appropriately.
To report to the Divisional Modality Lead in Ultrasound as required.
Duties include management of the department, collaborative production of staff rotas to ensure all services are covered.
Completion of monthly attendance sheets, including calculations and checks.
Support the wider department in management tasks as appropriate/delegated by the Directorate Manager., In return, the Directorate offers education and training for all staff with continuing professional development opportunities such as upskilling into specialised areas and enhanced practice such as sonographer performed neck FNA procedures.
To succeed, you'll need proven ultrasound experience and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of patients and carers. Flexibility in your approach to work is essential. Working as part of dynamic team and you may have opportunities to provide teaching and mentoring with the support of our Clinical Tutor in Ultrasound.
