Full Job Description

This Proactive LV Field Engineer will report to the Lead Field Engineerand will work within Network Operations based in our Croydon office. You will be a permanent employee., To work as part of a team to deliver Proactive works within the South East geographical areas. This includes liaison with customers, network operations and control, networks planning and guidance of field staff and management of contractors.

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Ensure of safety management throughout all responsibilities

  • Responsibility for delivery of all construction, maintenance and fault works to time, cost and quality

  • Ensure staff comply with all procedures and work to a high standard of quality

  • Daily planning, co-ordination and real-time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources together with the South East Region scheduling team

  • Communicate with HV/LV control - submission of HV/LV switching log, complete HV/LV network operations in accordance to distribution safety rules and procedures.

  • Support and provide technical support to field staff,

  • Manage and resolve any contract actual issues, with the support of Contract Management.

  • Produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements for the safe delivery of projects work.

  • Complete quality assurance checks of works completed and to rectify any quality issues identified.

  • Communicate with and manage relationships with our customers to meet their expectations wherever possible.

  • To be prepared to assist other sections e.g. organisational changes, system emergencies as determined by your experience.


  • You will be encouraged to participate in an agreed standby arrangement for responding to safety/emergency network incidents following the 2012 PMSNF Standby Agreement.

    Nature and Scope:

    You will play an important role in the team to help deliver Fault Restoration and Repair work within a geographical area.

    Together with the scheduling team, Field Staff Supervisors and Field Staff, you will deliver an excellent service to our customers, ensuring we meet the requirements of our Guaranteed Service Standards., Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

    Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

    Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.

  • £51,245 - LV Field Engineer / Trainee Engineer; with C&G or equivalent

  • £61,723 - HV Field Engineer with Full 11kV SAP; plus ONC

  • £76,229 - EHV Field Engineer with Full 33kV or 132kV SAP; plus HNC


  • C&G 232/236 (or equivalent)

  • ONC Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • HNC Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)

  • LV/HV and authorisation on the SPN network

  • EHV (33kV) authorisation on the SPN network


  • Notes for candidates
  • An HV Field Engineer can plan work on underground cables and overhead lines up to and including 11kV, including the preparation & execution of switching schedules, and the issuing of safety documents to others. (Employees who only hold a SAP Manage competency for Plant Maintenance will not be deemed as a Full SAP)

  • An EHV Field Engineer can complete work on underground cables and overhead lines up to and including 33kV, including the preparation & execution of switching schedules, and the issuing of safety documents to others., IOSH Managing Safely certificate (must be attained within 12 months of appointment)

    You will attract a salary of £51,245 - £76,229 per annum (depending on experience)


  • £2452.97 per annum Outer London Allowance and a bonus of 3%

    If you are successful, you will need to undertake a medical and DBS reference check
