Full Job Description

The process engineer designs, develops, maintains and improves manufacturing processes for connectors realization by monitoring product assembly, assessing processes, taking measurements, analyzing data and testing manufacturing methods in compliance with lean concepts. He has to implement manufacturing processes received from Manufacturing engineers and to optimize existing processes in the plants; applying knowledge of operational review, process review, fabrication methods, tooling and materials, soliciting observations from operators and other engineers, interacting with product design engineers, quality engineers and manufacturing design engineers. Responsibility spans from low series production process implementation in collaboration with product design and manufacturing engineers till to complete manufacturing hand-over to assembly department,

  • Develop, optimize and monitor series production in the plant and in external manufacturing sites
  • Test and validate process tooling
  • Review and develop working instructions, workmanship standards and process documents, and ensure they are followed both in plants and in external manufacturing sites
  • Review, update and make corrections on routings and production ERP technical data, provide support to ERP team on manufacturing data management
  • Validate manufacturing cycle and processes for NPIs collaborating with Manufacturing Engineers
  • Support new product prototype development and low rate initial production
  • Attend operational reviews through different new product development stages (P-FMEA)
  • Work on product transfers on other manufacturing sites
  • Organize, implement and maintain production process flow of Smiths Interconnect Italian Site
  • Liaise with production planner / scheduler and internal technical services for ensuring that released products have adequate BOM, routings and process documentation
  • Raise / process / approve Engineering Change Notice (ECN) requests
  • Give support to lab / test activities as required, e.g. preparation & commissioning of test rigs, preparation of test components (test adaptors / fixtures, & other relevant testing parts)
  • Provide manufacturing data like production control charts, process capability and other KPIs to improve the process and measure progress to target
  • Implement lean, continuous improvement, kaizen, 6s and site standardization as defined by global operation management
  • Identify ways to reduce production costs through recommendations like new process equipment proposal, equipment justification to improve performance, Capex requests
  • Provide proposals, drive and monitor VIP initiatives related to process optimization against targets
  • Develop standard procedures to improve manufacture processes and to reduce overall cost
  • Along with other team members, contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient working environment, including following appropriate HSE procedures / performance of risk assessments as appropriate, safety assessments
  • Be a promoter of culture of lean and continuous improvement in work processes
  • Be one of drivers of change in process implementation
  • Maintain Process / Manufacturing engineering tooling and routings databases
  • Deliver technical training to Operators.
  • Support internal / external audits for process analysis

    Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience (5 years)
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in small to medium companies in the role or similar
  • Experience in process design and evaluation for electromechanical product realization companies (automation machine process experience will be a plus)
  • Experience in process implementation, lean, cost assessment, process improvement where manual labour is a big part of the process
  • Experience in transition from manual to automated processes
  • Experience on special processes (gluing, soldering, plating)
  • Proficiency with Solidworks CAD
  • Very strong practical and problem solving skills.
  • Fluent English
  • Proficiency in presenting technical presentation and operational reviews (P-FMEA)
  • Proficiency with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office programs
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
  • Quality Testing experience will be a plus.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Curious, practical, open-minded, this role will deal with skilled and seasoned operators on the field.
