Full Job Description

Process Technicians operate and monitor chemical manufacturing processes, an industrial scale to transform raw materials, or fluids such as Milk, Oil or in our case Sugar (using heat, cooling, pressure, or a chemical/biochemical agent) into an end product. This is undertaken through operation of mechanical and electrical plant, analysing flow behaviour through equipment, temperatures and pressure, or setting operating parameters using computer automation and hands on interactions. In addition to this, process technicians are responsible for assisting in the installation, operation, planned preventative maintenance, and repair of machinery, such as pumps, turbines, or compressors connected to plant operations,

  • Operate the plant in a safe and compliant manner during start up, shut down, normal and abnormal operations.
  • Analyse factory area performance data and recommend appropriate remedial action to ensure achievement of budget throughput, energy, extraction, process chemical usage and product quality.
  • Solve operational issues through technical knowledge and skills along with practical fault finding using a standardised tools and techniques.
  • Engage in continuous improvement activities to support the development of processing efficiency, cost control and safety & environmental improvement. Involvement in specific safety improvement work through direct or in-direct support of site SIP (Safety Improvement Plan) teams.
  • Work in partnership with Process lead, Shift Performance Manager, other shift & day-based teams to control and operate plant in order to maintain product within specified quality parameters.

    We currently have exciting opportunities for a career-minded, Safety focused individuals with a Science/Engineering background or interest to join our team as development Process technicians. These are varied roles involving both hands on interactions with industrial equipment and the use of the latest process control and computer automation technology, whilst applying Science and Engineering knowledge learned., Experience of working in an operational team of varying disciplines and skill levels.
  • Understanding of hazards and controls associated with a complex industrial environments or production of food and feed.
  • A proven track record of effective technical problem solving, fault diagnosis and continuous improvement.
  • Experience of working in a lean operating environment.
  • Good communication ability and ability to prioritise.
  • Good analytical skills and ability to understand technical data.
  • Ability to work as an individual and with groups.
  • Ability to demonstrate practical hands-on skills, competence, and knowledge of a relevant manufacturing process.
  • A minimum 5 GCSE's including Science, Maths and English, or equivalent.
  • Higher education qualifications in Science or Engineering would be desirable.

    Salary: £44,314 pa starting salary, rising to £46,365 pa (following completion of a Professional technician sign off), providing the required progression is achieved, within 18-24 months the salary would be £49,100., We operate 24/7, with our teams working a rotating, 12hr, 4 on, 4 off shift pattern.
