Full Job Description

  • Work closely with planning, operations, production & logistics to ensure raw materials and packaging are delivered on time and at the right quality to meet the needs of the business.
  • Sourcing new suppliers and raw materials for new and existing product development.
  • Requesting, obtaining, and analyzing quotations and tenders for raw materials and packaging across both sites.
  • Negotiating pricing quotations and contracts to achieve best value for money on raw materials and packaging purchasing across both sites.
  • Actively managing contract volumes status in line with ongoing business requirements.
  • Manage orders for finished product packaging stocks in line with production requirements.
  • Manage the ordering of raw materials in line with production requirements.
  • Create and maintain good working relationships with supplier accounts via email, telephone and in person.
  • Manage maintenance of company systems with respect to supplier details, pricing, contracts, and raw material/packaging specifications across both sites.
  • Liaise with orders and accounts team to ensure smooth running of operations across both sites.
  • Produce and distribute regular reports on markets, volumes and prices for key raw materials and suppliers.
  • Highlight raw material quality issues with suppliers and oversee the investigative process to ensure a resolution is reached.
  • Carry out supplier and material approval alongside the technical department.
  • Track and report on supplier performance against required targets, liaising with suppliers to find a resolution where required.
  • Investigate and resolve invoice discrepancies for packaging and raw materials.
  • Identify opportunities to improve value for money on raw material and packaging purchases.

    Undergraduate degree in a business discipline - desirable, but not essential.
  • CIPS (or equivalent) qualification (or working towards) - desirable, but not essential.
  • Previous experience of working in a purchasing role - essential.
  • Previous experience of working in a food ingredient purchasing role- desirable, but not essential.
  • Computer literate with experience of Microsoft applications.
  • Interest in animals
  • Communication - good verbal & written skills to effectively disseminate information within the business, as well as to both customers and suppliers.
  • Team work - personable and comfortable working with staff members across departments as part of a small team.
  • Individual working - is capable of working alone and has the confidence to take decisions.
  • Problem solving - is able to problem solve basic issues within the scope of their role.
  • Learning - a fast learner who is capable of picking up basic information about the company's product range in a short period of time.

  • Flexibility - willing to travel between manufacturing sites and work outside of normal office hours if requested.
