Full Job Description

We are recruiting for a Procurement Programme Manager to join our fantastic Purchasing Management team in Woking. As the Procurement Programme Manager, your main task is to be the Purchasing spokesperson for an assigned new programme. Working in a cross-functional setting, you will contribute to overall project delivery and company profitability by proactively working closely with VLD and Engineering Functional Leadership (EFL), to ensure alignment on key issues at stakeholder Gateway readiness reviews.
What You'll Do

  • Early engagement with Engineering, Vehicle Line Delivery & other functions to apply the McLaren Development Process (MDP) for that New Model, considering strategy, cost, quality and timing.

  • Defining and managing the Purchasing activity plan ensuring that the deliverables are achieved at each of the programme gateways.

  • Managing the supplier activity with the Procurement teams from pre-nomination through to end of production.

  • Ensuring that category strategies are being appropriately prioritised by the Commodity Procurement team based on the needs of the New Model and are targeted for completion at the appropriate time. Monitoring the delivery of this in relation to Programme requirements.

  • Using the category strategies to influence early Vehicle Line & EFL thinking on sourcing and technology. Highlight any potential deviation for resolution.

  • Actively contributing to the validation of cost targets (component and capex) from a procurement viewpoint to ensure that tough but achievable programme goals are set and clearly communicated. Actively feeding back and influencing targets in VLD, Finance & EFL based on procurement intelligence.

  • With EFL and procurement creating the overall engagement plan for each commodity, allowing for early engagement, competition strategy and lead-time.

  • Creating the required information release plans based on needed dates and negotiate them with Procurement and VLD / Engineering. Publish and hold everyone to account. Manage deviations from plan.

  • Tracking, reporting, and holding to account all parties for delivery of relevant MDP gate targets and KPIs especially Engineering, Procurement and SQD. Escalate as necessary to ensure Programme success.

  • Tracking open issues and ensure closure plans are in place with relevant role holders. Representing the department in cross function reviews, including Project Meetings, Change Management reviews, Build reviews etc.

  • Developing and maintaining Supplier Master list for all new parts.

  • Along with SQD and the Programme Procurement team, ensuring delivery of committed Supplier PPAP part delivery for the builds. Preparing Programme Milestone Management summary report including recommendations on whether to proceed through Gateway and the supporting rationale to the Programme Procurement Director & SQD Director to gain buy in.

    Minimum of a university degree in Business or Engineering (ideally automotive, aerospace, or mechanical), or similar.

  • Ideally, professionally qualified to MCIPS level or equivalent and Programme Management

  • Previous senior Procurement experience in the Automotive industry

  • Well versed in successfully delivering complex cross functional projects.

  • Experience of high volume and niche vehicle Procurement, with the ability to apply best practice as appropriate.

  • Deep understanding of the Procurement function and processes, ideally with at least 5 years of Programme Management, Supplier Quality or Procurement Leadership experience

  • Excellent motivational, coaching and leadership skills and capability to lead and influence within a dynamic organisation.

  • Able to effectively influence at all levels of the business from buyer to board member, with the appropriate level of detail.

  • Comfortable dealing with suppliers at all levels of the organisation, up to and including CEO level.

  • Results driven and able to deliver against challenging targets to achieve the overall programme and business objectives.

  • Good working knowledge of both manufacturing and quality processes.

  • Proficiency in project management processes and associated tools to support digitalisation of our PPM process.
