Full Job Description

We are looking for a talented Product Engineering Specialist to join our team specialising in Mechatronics Systems for our Cummins Drivetrain & Braking Systems Business Unit in Cwmbran, Wales, United Kingdom. In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Innovative Development: By developing, testing, and producing advanced sensing systems for drivetrain and braking components, you'll drive innovation and enhance vehicle performance and safety.
  • Project Management: Managing all aspects of engineering products, including project timing, costs, and prototype builds, ensures that projects meet customer requirements efficiently and effectively.
  • Model-Based Development: Utilizing Matlab/Simulink to develop control models, you'll streamline the development process and improve the accuracy and reliability of system simulations.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working with cross-functional teams to create system requirements for electrified drivetrain components fosters a collaborative environment and ensures comprehensive solutions.
  • Customer Support: Supporting external customers to define software features and system interfaces helps tailor solutions to specific vehicle classes, enhancing customer satisfaction and product relevance.
  • Safety Compliance: Developing requirements and collaborating with suppliers to meet ISO-26262 functional and technical safety requirements ensures that products are safe and compliant with industry standards.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Troubleshooting issues and testing systems on benches, dynos, and in vehicles ensures that any problems are identified and resolved quickly, maintaining high product quality.
  • Mentorship and Leadership: Mentoring less experienced engineers and leading smaller projects or complex components helps build a strong, knowledgeable team and fosters a culture of continuous improvement., To be successful in this role you will need the following:
  • Excellent Communication and Leadership Skills: Effectively convey ideas, inspire and guide teams, and foster a collaborative environment.
  • Project Management Proficiency: Skilfully manage multiple projects, delegate tasks appropriately, and stay engaged to ensure timely and successful completion.
  • Product Development Expertise: Plan, schedule, and coordinate product development activities, monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure the product meets quality and stakeholder expectations.
  • Mechanical Design Acumen: Deep understanding of mechanical systems to create innovative designs that meet customer requirements across all lifecycle stages and operating environments.

    A bachelor's degree in engineering or applied science is required, with a master's in engineering (MSE) highly preferred, along with substantial practical experience.
  • Experience with sensors, data analytics, and commercial vehicle systems (e.g., heavy/medium duty trucks, speciality, and defence vehicles), including proficiency in CAN, CCP, and XCP communication tools.
  • Skilled in computer model-based design (Python, Matlab/SIMULINK, C, C++, PowerSim, TruckSim) and data acquisition/analysis systems.
  • Desirable: Experience with ISO26262 functional safety requirements, axle/suspension/brake system integration, and automotive microcontroller/FPGA programming is a plus.
  • Advantageous: Familiarity with digital and analogue communications, and practical applications of electronic controls in areas such as controller communications, pneumatics, motion controls/robotics, and automation.
