Full Job Description

The role of product owner is a new position within the Digital Team. As a digital product owner you will be an instrumental part of our digital journey. We are changing the way our customers utilise the online channel from an ordering portal into a channel they can rely for all their business needs. Our ambition is to offer best in class online experience for our Catering and Retail customers.

You'll work closely with our wider online tech team, external design and brand agencies, as well as with a wide range of stakeholders, customers and subject matter experts to truly understand the requirements for our online channel. You'll provide hands-on technical and functional input at all stages of discovery, design, maintenance, build, integration, and user testing.

As a key member of the digital team you will serve as a key contact for stakeholders, leveraging your Project management skills to ensure smooth functioning of the discovery, design, content, development and UAT workstreams, support project tasks, adhere to SLAs, manage deliverables within time and budgetary constraints. This role reports into the Digital Director.

Booker.co.uk is the fastest growing business to business wholesale website in the UK, and takes customer orders that account for c.30% of Booker Group's sales. The digital team look after all the web content for Booker Group web sites & apps, including the Booker.co.uk our B2B commerce web site, and also the content only consumer facing web sites operated for various divisions and brands within the Booker Group.

  • Responsible for implementing the digital vision and product roadmap by collaborating closely with key stakeholders to ensure online transformation aligns with business goals and effectively addresses user needs.

  • Working with selected customers and key stakeholders to gather their requirements, ensuring that their needs are thoroughly understood and addressed in our initiatives.

  • Conducting user research and usability testing to gain insights into customer behaviour, needs, and pain points, guiding informed and data-driven design decisions that prioritize user satisfaction.

  • Manage the teams workflow, prioritizing a product backlog of features and functionalities, ensuring alignment with stakeholder feedback and user research to meet user needs and enhance digital proposition.

  • Working closely with designers and developers to translate the product backlog into actionable tasks, ensuring alignment on design and functionality while maintaining clear communication throughout the process.

  • Create clear and concise user journeys to ensure a seamless online experience. Thoroughly articulate functionality from the user\\'s perspective, ensuring it is practical and implementable. Advocate for customer experience as a critical deliverable in all projects and support the development of product roadmaps.

  • Take responsibility for establishing success metrics by leveraging analytics tools and methods to accurately measure performance. Define clear KPIs to evaluate the effectiveness of the redesign, focusing on user engagement, satisfaction, and conversion rates.

  • Conducting evaluations of project outcomes. Continuously gather user feedback/suggestions post-launch to inform ongoing improvements and iterations of the website.

  • Driving change through innovation by harnessing third party software that helps improves the customer experience and create opportunities to generate revenue.

  • Track team progress and ensure timely delivery of all projects on the roadmap ensuring that the redesign is completed on schedule and within budget.

  • Regularly update stakeholders on progress, challenges, risks and results throughout the redesign process.

    Batchelors Degree or equivalent, ideally in Computing or related field.


  • Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, development teams, and users to convey vision and gather feedback.

  • Excellent in building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Understanding of user experience (UX) principles and ability to advocate for user needs throughout the redesign process.

  • Familiarity with Agile practices, to manage workflow and adapt to changes efficiently.

  • Ability to oversee project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring the redesign stays on track.

  • Proficiency in analysing data related to user behaviour and website performance data to inform redesign decisions.

  • Working Knowledge of GA4 analytics, Hot Jar, Contentsquare

  • Strong leadership skills to inspire and coordinate cross-functional teams, fostering a collaborative working environment.

  • Good knowledge of web design principles and systems and Some technical knowledge of web development to effectively communicate with developers and designers.

  • Ability to think creatively to solve problems and generate innovative ideas for enhancing the website.

  • Skills in gathering, analysing, and incorporating feedback from Customers and stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.

  • Desire to learn a complex online environment, add value and drive change by improving the customer journey online.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills, being able to communicate effectively and efficiently taking into account the nature of the audience.

  • Good technical documentation skills, reviewing/ writing technical documentation.


  • Experience relevant for this job:
  • At least 5 years' experience of managing online transformation projects that support multiple B2B or B2C websites.

  • Sound understanding of running enterprise scale ecommerce websites supporting a high-volume transactional business. and web site architecture principles.

  • Able to deliver at pace online transformation projects that cover front-end UX/UI design and content strategy.

  • Able to own roadmap and help to shape this by working closely with various stakeholders to integrate with digital strategy

  • Makes sound and timely decisions based on careful consideration of a range of factors, including all aspects of risk and return

  • Enthusiastic, thorough, inclusive and results-oriented.

  • Proven 'hands on' track record of delivering support for digital solutions within a fast paced environment.

  • Experience in implementing quality assurance processes and testing strategies to ensure that the transformed website meets high standards of performance and usability.

  • Good understanding of UX and design principles.

  • Proven track record of building strong working relationships with external agencies.
