Full Job Description

One of the UK's most ambitious soaps, EastEnders, is looking for a Production Manager to join their team. Production Managers on EastEnders are vital to the smooth running, safety and success of the show. Working across blocks, they are responsible for scheduling, budget management, compliance and people management, and are the control centre for all that we do. The Production Manager role on EastEnders is a natural progression from 1st AD. We look for people who have worked in soap as a 1st AD or PM, and understand the dynamics of a multi-team, multi-unit and multi-camera drama set up. They will expertly manage and schedule cast and crew, and work closely with directors and producers to support creative ambition, whilst protecting the budget and schedule. They will confidently lead their block from prep to delivery; remaining aligned with other block teams and reacting to change with ease and a pragmatic, organised approach.Main Responsibilities In partnership with the EastEnders editorial team:

  • Production manage blocks through preparation, crewing and shoot
  • Ensure successful delivery to budget and schedule without sacrificing creative integrity through effective planning, monitoring and control of production
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times
  • Field queries from crew and cast - identifying issues or areas of concerns and escalating where required
  • Work closely with Directors and Producers to support creative vision in alignment with the budget, schedule, compliance and health and safety
  • Source suppliers and negotiate contracts for services/freelancers not covered by our Business team; i.e stunts
  • Lead and advise on legislation and policies (internal and external) which impact production; i.e, working with children, working over night, over time
  • Embrace BBC Studios' inclusive culture and proactively look for ways to improve efficiency within production and promote diversity and inclusion, Please note that this is a standard Studios Production contract and potentially can involve up to 55 hours per week

    Are you an experienced continuing drama PM, or a 1st AD looking to transfer your skills in to production management? Have you honed your skills on a multi-team, continuing drama and understand what it takes to deliver multiple episodes per week, week after week?, Experience of working as a Production Manager or 1st Assistant Director on a continuing drama
  • Expert knowledge of best practice and potential issues relating to multi-team production, and multi-unit, multi-camera shooting
  • Effective project management skills with examples of projects you have led and delivered
  • Experience of managing schedules and budgets via systems such as Excel and Movie Magic
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of end-to-end multi-platform production with a significant level of technical understanding
  • Experience of monitoring and managing health and safety on a production
  • Experience of managing crew, including handling enquiries and providing feedback with regards to performance.
  • Experience and examples of when you have had uncomfortable or difficult conversations which have led to a positive resolution
  • Exceptional organisational and planning skills with evidence of when you have managed multiple conflicting demands and tight deadlines
  • Knowledge and passion for drama, especially EastEnders
