Internal Applicants Only - Professional Specialist in Information Systems and Database Development Centre for Trials Research (CTR) College of Biomedical & Life Sciences The Centre for Trials Research at Cardiff University is a large, multinational community of researchers, professional services staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds. You will work as a developer maintaining and developing information systems which support clinical trials, studies and research within the CTR. This will cover support of live systems aswell as assisting the existing developers on development of new systems to support research. The software in use will be REDCap and MACRO. Should you also wish to use programming skills such as PHP then there will also be opportunities to do this., Support the University within information systems and database development for trials, carrying out supporting work, providing advice, guidance and support, and leading projects within this area,

  • Provide professional advice and guidance on information systems and database development processes and procedures to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
  • Support information systems development and administration for individual projects, creating recommendation reports, supported by advances within information systems and database development
  • Ensure that the provision of information systems and database development is delivered to the Centre, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements
  • Collaborate with others in order to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required
  • Create specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve Centre objectives
  • Supervise specific project teams on an occasional basis to accomplish key objectives
  • Develop and deliver training within information systems and database development for trials
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University within information systems and database development in trials as required
  • Ensure that work is undertaken and documented in a regulatory compliant way and be prepared for regular audits and inspections, as well as contributing to the development of the Quality management system for the area of information systems and database development

    With a degree in IT or a related subject (or equivalent experience) you will require excellent IT and communication skills, have experience of software configuration and demonstrable expertise in construction of web applications (ideally PHP).
  • You will also need to be able to work within a busy multi-disciplinary team, be able to support several projects concurrently and deliver work in a punctual and professional manner. This position would suit a self-motivated, creative individual with a customer-focussed approach to IT and IS. The ability to use initiative, and work with a variety of different people at all levels of an organisation is desirable., Qualifications and Education 1. Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience Knowledge, Skills and Experience 2. Substantial experience of working within information systems and database development (such as REDCap, MACRO or SQL Server) 3. Able to demonstrate professional knowledge within information systems and database development to give advice and guidance to internal and external customers (UML, AGILE etc) 4. Ability to configure off-the-shelf software such as REDCap or MACRO Customer Service, Communication and Team Working 5. Ability to communicate conceptually detailed and complex information effectively and professionally with a wide range of people 6. Evidence of ability to explore customers' needs and adapt the service accordingly to ensure a quality service is delivered Planning, Analysis and Problem solving 7. Evidence of ability to solve expansive problems using initiative and creativity; identifying and proposing practical solutions and resolving problems with range of potential outcomes 8. Evidence of demonstrable knowledge of key advances within information development and database development 9. Evidence of ability to work unsupervised to deadlines, planning and setting priorities for own work and that of others and monitoring progress. Other 10.     This post is full-time (35 hours per week), open-ended, based at Heath Park and are available from 2nd December 2024 The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under "blended working" arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed. Salary: £33,232 - £35,880 per annum (Grade 5). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
