Full Job Description

As a Programme Engineering Manager you will be responsible for the following:

1. This role supports the former Works Delivery organisation, which is now hosted across the three routes, North West, Central and West Coast South Main Line. The team is made up multi engineering disciplines, it also includes a large contruction management team providing on site quality assurance.

2. Develop and manage the team structure and processes to deliver and review engineering outputs to support the programme schedule, budget and quality requirements.

3. In line with programme requirements, identify and manage the introduction of new systems on the network, where applicable, including systems/safety approvals and monitoring so that processes and documentation exist for sustained network usage.

4. Develop safety, quality and environmental approvals processes within the programme including staff development and competence.

5. Identify and manage the programme engineering budget along with providing support information determining the overall programme budget.

6. Manage all engineering and project development activities result so that they in schemes that are affordable, and that meet Programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality.

7. Provide professional functional leadership for engineering within the programme, in accordance with policies set up by the Engineering function.

8. Manage the appropriate validation and verification of engineering activity.

· Chartered Engineer with relevant successful experience of Programme Management within the Railway Industry or other complex E&M industries/projects.

· University degree in an engineering subject.

· Membership of an appropriate Professional Institution.

· Relevant experience of railway engineering systems and equipment, and implementation.

· Construction design management competence.

· Six Sigma Champion.

It's not mandatory to have the below, but it would be desirable to have:

· Experience of large programmes/projects.

· Experience of leading railway engineering design & development works.

Our Route

Central route is at the heart of Britain's railway. The route covers a major part of the national rail network and is a key commuter line in and out of Birmingham, with hundreds of thousands of passengers, and thousands of tonnes of freight carried within our route each week. Within our route is the Chiltern Main Line between London Marylebone and the West Midlands, the Snow Hill line from Stratford-upon-Avon to Worcester, the Cross City line in Birmingham, and lines to other cities including Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall, and Oxford.

We are home to Birmingham New Street station, the busiest station outside of London with more than 170,000 passengers using it every day.

Salary: starting from £85,395 raising to £96,070 per annum. Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.
