Full Job Description

This is a unique opportunity for a skilled manager to manage a large international research consortium seeking to understand how to design and deliver policies for to promote early childhood development in two contrasting contexts, Argentina and Ghana. The manager will ensure the delivery of this research programme linked to the initiative (CAP-2030), a global collaboration to promote child health, development and well-being over the next decade. The research consortium is funded by the UK National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) and is part of the Institute for Global Health's growing portfolio of work on health policy and systems research, which seeks to understand and improve how governments and societies achieve collective health goals, including by optimizing children's health and development., This post offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced programme manager with interest and experience in health policy and systems research (HPSR) and/or early childhood development to contribute to a new project aiming to improve intersectoral policy for early childhood development in Argentina and Ghana. This NIHR-funded project is a collaboration between FLACSO (Argentina), the Centre for Learning and Childhood Development (Ghana) and UCL's Institute for Global Health. The Programme Manager will be responsible for overseeing the operational and financial management of a research programme, liaising with partners in Argentina, Ghana and elsewhere, reporting to funders, and supporting new grant applications as required. There will be opportunities for the successful candidate to develop their skills within the project. The successful candidate will be based at UCL in London but may be expected to work in Argentina and Ghana during short visits not exceeding two weeks per year. This is a full-time role (i.e. 36.5 hours per week) and it is available immediately until October 2029 in the first instance. Part-time and job-share applications are also considered. The postholder should have experience of project management in business or research unit. They should also have experience of financial management with high levels of financial competency and proven experience of producing reports and other technical documents. The successful candidate should have strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop effective working relationships within a multidisciplinary team. Excellent negotiation and influencing skills with ability to successfully facilitate contract negotiations and collaborations with external organisations across diverse cultures including in LMIC settings are essential as are demonstrable analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail. The role requires that the post holder is willing to travel internationally.
