Full Job Description

The post-holder will be employed on the Mapping Africa's Endangered Archaeological Sites and Monuments (MAEASaM project (https://maeasam.org ' @MAEASaMProject), and will join the Cambridge-based team comprising the Principal Investigator, the Project Manager, Researchers, and a second part-time Project Administrator with whom the post-holder will work closely to ensure that all the administrative needs of the project are met. The post-holder will also liaise with the wider team of Co-Investigators and Researchers who are based across Africa and other locations in the UK, mainland Europe and Scandinavia.

MAEASaM is an international, multi-partner programme. The University of Cambridge serves as the lead and coordinating institution. The project is embarking on its second phase (2024-29), working with collaborating institutions and organisations to identify and document endangered sites and monuments in eleven African countries. The team employs a combination of remote sensing (use of satellite imagery), records-based research and selective archaeological field surveys to map and document thousands of sites, so helping to safeguard Africa's rich archaeological and cultural heritage.

The Project Administrator role supports the successful implementation of the project and reports directly to the Project Manager and Principal Investigator., The primary scope of the role is to support the achievement of the project's goals, in close collaboration with the Project Manager, Principal Investigator and all team members.

The successful candidate is expected to be educated to A Level standard or equivalent standard/NVQ level 3 or equivalent level of practical experience. Previous experience in an administrative role is essential. The post-holder will be an experienced user of Microsoft Office, with excellent planning, organisational and team-working skills. Previous experience of working in a higher education setting is desirable.
