We are currently recruiting for Project Engineers to join our Radioactive Waste Management and Disposal business. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary business (including chemists, physicists, geologists, engineers, safety case specialists, mathematicians and project managers) that delivers a range of projects on behalf of both UK-based and international customers. Our Waste Management, Disposal and Safety Case teams have led the field of research and assessment work related to the safe management and disposal of radioactive waste, for over 30 years. The team has a wide breath of both nationally and internationally respected expertise which underpins the science, technology and engineering to allow the safe disposal of radioactive waste. You will be supporting a diverse range of consultancy projects undertaken for our customers in the UK and overseas. The post offers the opportunity to get involved in projects that are solving real world problems for our customers. As a Project Engineer, you'll be a valued member of our team and work on real projects from Day 1. You will work as part of a team under the guidance and mentorship of our accredited project managers, experts and industry leaders. You'll help us manage projects across the full project life cycle as well as providing Supply Chain management and Project Controls input, including scheduling, cost management, systems and reporting. You will be supported and encouraged to gain formal Project Management qualifications., You will work within a project management team responsible for a range of consultancy, applied R&D and site investigation projects for customers including radioactive waste producers, radioactive waste management organisations and regulators, both in the UK and overseas. Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the delivery of single projects and / or larger projects with a value of circa £5M / year.
  • Ensuring that all work is conducted in a safe, timely and effective manner in line with the relevant procedures.
  • Monitoring projects to the budgeted margins, effective contract change management and communication throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Developing an understanding of the client relationships, business opportunities and scope of work.
  • Preparing formal monthly progress reports as part of business governance and client review.
  • Preparing and maintaining project documentation including Project Definition Documents, Quality Plans, Schedules and other documents as required.
  • Preparing specifications and supporting the process of contractor selection and contract placement.
  • Providing accurate and timely information, data and reports regarding the project status, resourcing levels, activities and performance.
  • Supporting the development of technical and commercial proposal responses.

    A degree or equivalent qualification in an appropriate discipline.
  • Project Engineering or relevant Project delivery experience.
  • Project management knowledge whether in an academic or non-academic context.
  • Genuine interest in nuclear decommissioning and waste management.
  • Proactive and adaptable approach suited to the diverse and challenging nature of the business.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well versed in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
