This position will be based in our EnerSys Advanced Systems (EAS) Space line of business, which will be part of a team delivering international space missions for satellites, launchers, and interplanetary vehicles. The company works with both national and international space agencies like NASA and European Space Agency as well as working across the commercial marketplace supporting missions that include Earth observation, internet of things (IoT) satellite constellations and global positioning and navigation systems. This is a role that can truly be said to impact people across the globe.

Job Purpose

The Project Engineer acts as a lead engineer on customer or internal projects. The engineer provides technical assessment, analysis, data review and technical documentation for the specified project. The engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team, with support from Junior Engineers, to ensure on-time and on-quality delivery to the customer. The role will be the primary technical representative to the customer for the specified project. The candidate will have a STEM background, and a keen interest in working on space projects. The candidate will have experience working as a technically responsible engineer

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
-Responsible for the detailed project design solution under guidance from Senior/Principal engineers:

-Analysis of the electrical, thermal and mechanical performance of the battery
-Specification of battery components e.g. heaters
-Work with CAD Manager to generate drawings
-Support in-build technical checks
-Support technical checks during the battery test campaign, including support to testing at external sites, e.g. vibration
-Verification of project hardware from test data, and correlation to predicted performance
-Produce project documentation such as analysis reports, battery user manuals, test plans, and test reports
-Contribute technical information to project readiness review and non-conformance meetings
-Production of compliance statements to the project and industry standards
-Communication on technical matters to customers
-Support proposals by providing technical inputs
-Support inputs to technical papers and presentations
-Responsible for on-time and on-quality solutions
-Supports allocation of tasks to assigned Graduate/Junior Engineers
-Supports department level process management documentation
-Supports continuous improvement in the department

Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
-A degree in STEM subject, or equivalent qualification

Required

-Experience as an engineer in a customer facing role
-Good level of IT skills for data analysis, modelling, results presentation and reporting
-Experience with test and verification activities
-Experience in report writing

Desirable

-Experience working with space industry primes, agencies and end users
-Experience in some of the following areas:

-Mechanical design and analysis
-Thermal design and analysis
-Li-ion battery performance
-Reliability and failure modes
-Vibration/shock testing
-Knowledge and understanding of ECSS standards

Skills / Competencies
-Attention to detail and an ability to examine and present data clearly
-An ability to effectively prioritise and work to detailed scheduled plans and tight deadlines
-Excellent people skills; be a proven team worker but with an ability to work independently
