The Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE) is accountable for the Southern Regions renewals programme (CP7 & CP8) and through collective expertise will develop, mobilise and deliver a £9 billion programme between 2024 – 2034. Network Rail Works Delivery which forms part of the SRE is a fully integrated commercial partnership between AtkinsRéalis, Network Rail Works Delivery, Octavius, VolkerRail & VolkerFitzpatrick and through our collective strength, capability and knowledge will own and deliver the renewals programme within a collaborative model. Together we will achieve and share in success. As Project Engineer (B&C) reporting to the Senior Project, you'll have responsibility for leading the development and implementation of Building and Civil work within the Works Delivery programme for Network Rail. Within Works Delivery you will be joining a dynamic team delivering large volumes of highly diverse works working collaboratively without suppliers. The key purpose of the SRE is the efficient delivery of renewals through improved specification, better utilisation of resources and the professional control and management of projects. Its focus is to renew the rail infrastructure to deliver our commitments for the future through increased efficiency and value for money. In addition to the specific B&C design and construction responsibilities this role is required to undertake the duties of Designated Project Engineer on multi discipline Railway Projects joining an established multi-disciplinary team to manage design and/or construction activities for engineering activities on allocated projects. Managing so that appropriate engineering standards are used in relation to design and/or construction within the programme with compliance to the requirements of the PACE (Project Acceleration in a Controlled Environment), relevant legislation, Railway Group and company standards, and Network Rail procedures. Be a self-motivated individual leading engineering development to fruition for projects implemented within the Programme and to monitor whether suitably qualified and experienced staff are employed to control engineering aspects of all projects within the functional discipline., 1. Implement Network Rail systems and procedures to maintain a cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible approach to design, construction, commissioning and other technical activities on relevant projects, compliant with all relevant legislation. Liaise with regulators and others as appropriate. 2. Engineer Projects to the standards and specification of Network Rail, allocated design and construction contracts include reference to and are compliant with appropriate Railway Group and Network Rail Company standards, formal specifications and procedures. 3. Manage all engineering activities so that they result in schemes that are affordable and meet programme requirements in a safe and environmentally responsible manner for time, cost and quality. 4. Maintain the use of relevant techniques and procedures of quantified and qualitative risk assessment and HAZOP analysis to allocated projects and manage the environmental aspects of allocated projects in accordance with Network Rail’s environmental policy. 5. Monitor design and specialist consultants and contractors. 6. Provide project management advice in respect of all construction activities, including testing and commissioning and site supervision. Manage the design and/or construction elements of relevant projects meet the requirements of current legislation, including construction design management (CDM) regulations. 7. Internal and contractor’s design/construction/specialists personnel are competent. 8. Undertake reviews of design and/or construction activities. Arrange audits of contractors monitoring safety, environment and quality of design, construction, testing and commissioning and management systems is adequate. 9. Carry out the duties of designated project engineer (DPE) for specific projects. 10. Identify and share best practice across the various project teams.

  • Successful relevant experience in signalling engineering, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi discipline areas.
  • Technical qualifications to HNC/HND or equivalent GNVQ level.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance.
  • An understanding of the arrangements required for the independent assessment of work.
  • CDM, risk assessment, engineering management competency.
  • Desirable
  • Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level.
  • Knowledge of structuring safety cases in support of projects.
  • An appreciation of environmental issues in engineering works.
  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt.
  • Project safety management experience.
  • Yellow book course.

    Salary: £43,588 to £49,037 per annum, plus £3,270 London Allowance. The salary package also includes:
