Full Job Description

To support the project management team in the everyday management of projects and emergency projects for which they are responsible, in accordance with the PACE procedure (Project Acceleration in a Controlled Environment), Railway Group Standards, Network Rail's Company Standards, and all current applicable legislation including CDM Regulations.

This is a secondment opportunity for 6 months

  • About the role (External)

    What will you be doing?

    1. Work as part of a project team, assisting to deliver projects to time, cost and quality through various phases in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

    2. Monitor and report programme and progress in accordance with project reporting systems and guidelines.

    3. Develop and integrate, effective support systems to enable the Project Manager to manage and control change.

    4. Process contractor possession and isolation applications so that they applications are complete and submitted to the prescribed time scales as directed.

    5. Monitor contractor performance indicators and provide periodic progress reports.

    6. Support the Project Management team in providing a safe working environment at all times during the execution of those projects under their responsibility.

    7. Manage generic and site-specific methods of working and supply risk assessments to agreed timescales.

    8. Monitor so that HSQE risk assessments have been carried out by the contractor, and monitor compliance.

    9. Comply with the Investment Competence Framework.

    · Some management experience including project management.

    · Educated to HND/HNC or similar standard.

    · HSQE awareness, issues and principles.

    It's not mandatory to have the below, but it would be desirable to have

    · Membership (or working towards membership of) the Association for Project Management.

    · A degree or equivalent.

    · Knowledge of safety, quality, environmental, commercial and financial aspects.

    · Understanding of possession planning.

    Central Route:

    Within this role, you will be part of the North West & Central Region, working for the Central Route.

    Central Route is at the heart of Britain's railway, and it helps to carry hundreds of thousands of passengers and deliver hundreds of thousands of tonnes of freight each week. Within our Route, we have: the Chiltern Mainline which runs between London Marylebone and the West Midlands; the Snow Hill line which runs from Stratford-upon-Avon to Worcester; the Cross City line in Birmingham; and lines which run to Wolverhampton, Coventry, Walsall and Oxford. Our Route is also home to Birmingham New Street, the busiest station outside of London, and the hub of the national rail network which helps connect the South-West with Scotland and the North-West with East Anglia.

    We have big plans for Central Route over the coming years. Our Route is proud to be delivering complex multimillion-pound projects to help improve our passengers' journeys and freight movements by making our railway safer, more reliable and more resilient.     Civils:

    The Civils team in Central Route are the largest Works Delivery department in Network Rail. We design, construct, and maintain the civil engineering assets across the entire region. Such includes 5000 bridges, 300 tunnels and hundreds of miles of soil, rock cuttings and embankments. Through the four main departments of: Civils Internal Delivery, Civils Internal Design, Civils Asset Management, and Civils Project Management, we deliver over £100m of investment a year and support over 500 jobs in our immediate supply chain.

    This is an exciting and dynamic department, which promotes innovation, collaboration and expertise. Employees of the Civils department work at the heart of Network Rail's technical community, developing engineering capability, improving asset management processes, and promoting the embedment of new technology throughout the Region.

    Salary starting from £28,000 per annum.

    Network Rail adheres to a structured pay framework, any salary offered will be within the pay range advertised.
