Job Description

As a Project Manager, you will be responsible for development and realization of multi-million investment projects in line with the outlined objectives, business drivers and the Vattenfall project management model and governance. Part of a regional team, you will work cross-functionally to ensure projects are delivered as planned. You will be responsible for the day to day management of the project ensuring it is delivered safely, and within required time, budget and quality.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Reinforcing robust management of health and safety to industry best practice.

  • Planning, managing, executing and controlling the project with responsibility for budget, deadlines, quality, occupational safety and risk management, from concept development, construction to the start of commercial operation of a new plant.

  • Development of the concrete project planning and control.

  • Planning and definition of work packages for all parts of the project.

  • Project risk identification and risk management - including using a robust risk matrix to drive effective decision-making and prioritisation.

  • Development and control/monitoring of contracts with suppliers and service providers.

  • Coordination and determination of the planning results with the decision makers.

  • Proactive management of the critical path and, execution of subordinate tasks.

  • Reporting on Key Performance Indices to target.

  • Continuous management of various tiers of the project programme.

  • Leadership and management of the project multi-disciplinary team with task delegation and performance monitoring.

  • Resourcing and cost (capex and opex) management and forecasting

  • Ensuring a high standard of information/ configuration management - making sure nobody is left behind/missing critical information.

  • Responsible for keeping the project running to time, cost and quality with support and input within a matrix organisation.

  • Works estimation, and working investments through approvals and procurement processes.

  • Achieving key governance milestones, presenting to senior internal stakeholders.

  • Establish and enhance project stakeholder relationships and stakeholder management at every level of organisation structure

  • Change management.

  • Manage to execution contract connection agreements between Vattenfall and project plot developers, involving negotiating commercial risk positions and implementing contract processes of parent and subsidiary agreements.

  • Tendering, selection and negotiating framework service and goods agreements for Vattenfall Heat UK.


  • Qualifications

    Essential requirements:
  • Experience with multiple project management positions of complex infrastructure projects in development and/or realization.

  • Evidence of project planning covering various tiers and layers of the project programme.

  • Experience of managing multiple external stakeholders with various needs and requirements simultaneously.

  • Evidence of information and configuration management.

  • Experience of contract development and monitoring, with an understanding project commercials.

  • Evidence of working successfully cross-functional with various areas of the business to achieve the aims of the project.

  • Strong understanding of risk management processes and risk matrixes.

  • Good writing, communication and presenting skills.

  • Strong time management skills.

  • Negotiating skills, willingness to compromise and persuasiveness.

  • High degree of competence with software including: Office 365 suite (Word/ Excel Planner).

  • Passionate about being part of the transformation taking place in the shift to a zero carbon energy sector.


  • Nonessential but valuable:
  • Good understanding of UK Health and Safety Regulations.

  • Experience working in the district heating and/or building services sector.

  • Understanding of the district heating or wider green energy sector is an advantage.

  • Experiences of having to adapt to various internal and external changes which lead to uncertainty.
