Full Job Description

National Highways have an excellent opportunity for Project Managers to join our Planning and Development team in the South East region. Our Project Managers manage the delivery of a portfolio of third party projects within the region from the design stage until the handover to the National Highways, ensuring adherence to effective governance, quality assurance, health and safety, technical and specialist standards across the supply chain and National Highways.,

  • Manage the delivery of a portfolio of third party projects within the Region, across all stages of the project lifecycle, from design to handover into maintenance. Manage and evaluate risks, issues, dependencies and constraints associated with the portfolio, leading the development and implementation of solutions to overcome these.
  • Programme management, financial reporting and risk management against the budget, ensuring effective financial and contractual practices are in place and adhered to by all project resources. Prepare project business cases.
  • To comply with National Highways Operations Quality Management System (QMS) on all projects in scope to enable delivery within agreed parameters for quality, cost and time ensuring they meet intended outcomes, customer service levels, corporate standards, technical requirements, and health and safety.
  • Ensure National Highways' reputation is maintained throughout the delivery of projects by delivering best-practice customer and stakeholder communications. Develop and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the key stakeholders, suppliers, and across National Highways teams.
  • Ensuring the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers, employees and all parties involved in projects, are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity.

    Recognised qualification in relevant engineering discipline and/or with experience in the delivery of Civil Engineering projects and portfolios.
  • Proven portfolio and project management experience with related qualifications (e.g. MSP, APM, Prince2).
  • Good understanding of relevant technical asset policies and standards, construction practices, and relevant sections of the Highways Act (1980).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to bridge the demands of multiple stakeholders.
