Full Job Description

The Project Manager will oversee the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP), ensuring its effective and efficient delivery every five years, with annual reviews and revisions. This is an exciting opportunity to support statutory long-term planning for wastewater infrastructure looking ahead to the next 25 years. Key responsibilities include coordinating the DWMP to meet time, cost, and quality targets, reporting to steering groups and manager, and maintaining governance and RAID logs. The role also involves supporting the wider Drainage and Wastewater team in statutory Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) deliverables including supporting both the Modelling and Data and Environmental Modelling teams.,

  • Be accountable for day-to-day delivery, management, coordination, and control of DWMP including implementation of company project lifecycle governance to ensure outcomes deliver required benefits
  • Be accountable for accurate forecasting and reporting of key project information, updating any agreed project management reports and documentation, and feeding into DWMP strategic planning groups
  • Generate effective engagement, communication and involvement of stakeholders
  • Ensure robust cost versus benefits analysis, financial management and commercial awareness underpin all business decisions. Assist in visualising this as part of the overall DWMP
  • Engage regularly with the DWMP Manager and Drainage and Wastewater Manager to proactively manage and escalate risks, key decisions, and maintain momentum on project progression
  • Liaison with key contract partners working on the DWMP to ensure deliverables are on track for required DWMP timelines
  • Support the Modelling and Data Manager and Environmental Modelling Manager to ensure their programmes of work are on track to deliver key milestones
  • Champion the adoption of new technology and processes to support the improvement in performance
  • Conduct the role in accordance with the values and behaviours set out in Group policy
  • Drive excellent standards and performance in health and safety and wellbeing, risk management and ensure compliance with the YW Safety Policy

    APM (PMQ) accredited (or a willing to work towards this)
  • An effective decision maker, with experience and knowledge of project implementation and cultural change
  • Experience of managing project resources to deliver to time, scope, and cost
  • Strong financial governance with an ability to build quality business cases, forecast, and link project plans with the wider structure on interdepartmental business plans
  • Capable of identifying project issues, acting on those issues and working with colleagues to find a solution
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with an ability to negotiate and influence at all levels of the business including operations and strategy, and maintain effective internal and external relationships with colleagues and customers
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office packages - Excel, Project, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Willing to work from various sites as the work demands

  • Experience of delivering training/coaching/facilitation in a project environment
  • Previous experience in the utilities, process, or manufacturing industry sectors
  • Specific knowledge of the Wastewater environment, how YWS are regulated and an understanding of the key department drivers
  • Interrelated project skills including experience of working in Agile/Lean Six Sigma environments and Contract Management
  • IT literate with various software e.g., Geographic Information Systems (Odyssey), SAP S4, EDMS, AI2 etc.
