Full Job Description

To co-ordinate and manage the simultaneous safe delivery of multi-disciplinary and Overhead Line projects on time, to cost and to the quality objectives within the corporate guidelines and Network Rail standards. This will involve developing appropriate delivery, supply and logistic strategies for the projects that are both safe, efficient and sustainable and ensuring that the project programme is integrated for all disciplines. To undertake the day to day construction management of project works in terms of safety, quality, environment, engineering/ design compliance, commissioning, functionality and programme. This will involve planning and implementing processes to ensure the delivery of works and managing subcontractors as required. To undertake the required development work on new projects such as early contractor involvement and engineering access strategy., Deliver the project(s) safely to time, cost and quality, in accordance with the Guide to Railway Investment Projects (GRIP), applicable Railway Group, Network Rail company standards and other specific legislation including construction design management (CDM) Regulations. Accountable for the overall leadership and management of the alliance construction Delivery team ensuring that staff are managed effectively to deliver construction projects and a team of competent supervisors and engineers are in place to deliver the works. Oversee and apply the principles of sound Project Management taking overall accountability for Cost, Quality and Timeliness in collaboration with the Project Manager, Construction Manager and Technical Engineers. For all projects ensure that the multi-disciplinary work is integrated between disciplines within the available possessions and also ensure that the work is integrated with third parties and the wider project. Responsible for producing construction estimates for the projects, managing a cost effective delivery in line with the construction estimate, liaising with the commercial team to help provide accurate forecasting and managing change control process for each project. This will involve the procurement of labour, plant and materials in line with the target estimate and capturing any variation to the estimate to ensure, where necessary that change requests are made to the Programme Delivery Manager. Provide agendas and chair peer reviews and team meetings. Lead, motivate and manage track delivery teams to guarantee technical compliance and quality of delivered track renewal and enhancement works. For staff working on the project ensure that their training, development and support requirements are fulfilled. Where required implement new processes and review current business processes to refine and increase efficiency and effectiveness where possible. Ensure that these improvements are implemented and bought into by the wider team. As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements. Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.

The job holder will have: Relevant, successful experience as a project manager within the construction industry and specifically the railway industry. Relevant experience working on multi-disciplinary construction projects and preferably Overhead Line Projects. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Detailed knowledge of safety regulations (particularly CDM). Knowledge and experience of the GRIP process, producing the required deliverables and planning multi-disciplinary projects. Team leader capable of motivating the team and providing their training & development needs. Good understanding of procurement and commercial processes. Previous experience of implementing new processes and reviewing or amending current processes.
