Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a fixed term full time Project Manager for Children's Services. The Project Manager will support the Programme Lead to ensure the safe and effective transfer of the Children's Cancer Principal Treatment Centre (PTC) in South London from the joint PTC run by the Royal Marsden and St George's (SGUH) to the Evelina Children's Hospital. The post holder will support the scoping and delivery of associated work projects as SGUH looks to define and implement new service opportunities longer term following exit from PTC service delivery. They will be responsible for the day-to-day planning and delivery of key projects within the overarching programme of work. The post holder will need to maintain a good understanding of the fast paced and changing environment as the PTC transition work develops, supporting the Programme Lead to respond appropriately. The successful candidate will have strong project management skills to support the project management and delivery of the PTC transition, managing project risks, issues and dependencies effectively. They will work in partnership with appropriate management, clinical staff and others to ensure support and engagement for their project(s) and embed programme outcomes and deliverables, supporting the Programme Lead in their work with the Clinical Divisions to facilitate, review and support the implementation of the new model of care for the PTC and strategic transformation plans with NHS England as commissioners.,

  • Take responsibility for developing a robust project management framework, including the preparation of project plans, key outcomes, deliverables and timescales (utilising PMO standards and Best Practice).
  • Ensure effective performance management of associated project/s.
  • Ensure appropriate data collection systems are in place to facilitate the analysis, interpretation and presentation of information relevant to project/s - completing progress reports as required.
  • Ensure active engagement, accountability and ownership from key stakeholders on project/s.
  • Ensure there are regular project meetings to coordinate the work programme and report to the relevant governance/ steering groups.
  • Identify, involve and incorporate the views and needs of diverse staff groups (clinical leads, IDT, Estates, HR etc), where appropriate, in all stages of the project.
  • With the Programme Lead, ensure resources are allocated to projects so these are sufficient to deliver them efficiently and effectively.
  • Contribute to the sourcing of the resources required for the project i.e. participate in the recruitment of the project teams and the organisation of office space and administrative support.
  • To use influencing and facilitation skills to inspire staff allocated to their projects to approach things innovatively e.g. deliver services differently, adopt revised business processes, and establish strong relationships with external partners

    St. George's Hospital is a large multi-speciality facility based in South West London, offering a wide range of adult, paediatric and neonatal services. It is co-located with a medical school - St. George's, University of London. Children managed at SGH are either local or regional tertiary patients. Our Accident and Emergency department is seeing steadily increasing attendances, and our inpatient emergency admissions are also increasing. Outpatient referrals have also steadily increased for local children, reflecting the growing young population in SW Thames. Tertiary children's services are offered by consultants based at SGH in gastroenterology, endocrinology, respiratory medicine, neurology, oncology, infectious diseases and PICU.
