Full Job Description

To lead, define, plan and coordinate the project planning, resourcing, contract management, cost control, engineering, construction, commissioning, progress reporting and people management aspects to ensure project delivery meets scope, technical, schedule, cost, safety and business value commitments authorised by the Project's Steering Committee.

  • Operating Context:
  • Progress scope that has been developed by the Mutanda Mining (MUMI) Sulphides Study Manager and delivered as a service to the receiving operation (if a brownfield project) or regional entity (if a greenfield site).

  • Work with multiple stakeholders and representatives of various functions and disciplines to develop an integrated approach.

  • Leads a medium sized project requiring a project management specialist to operate within given parameters.

  • Study Manager (FS stage)

  • Regional Projects Lead (Execution stage)


  • Direct Reports:

    Will vary according to the nature and scope of the project. May typically include project and support area specialists, such as:
  • Senior Project Planner

  • Specific Area Specialists (e.g. Infrastructure)

  • Commercial / Procurement Specialist

    Internal:
  • Regional PMO functional representatives (e.g. Project Controls)

  • Functional representatives (e.g. Communities, HR, Finance)

  • EPCM and 3rd party Contractors

  • Government representatives, Within given parameters, develop the project scope by understanding the Glencore and business drivers and integrating these into a meaningful plan.

  • Maintain continuous alignment of project scope with business objectives and make recommendations to modify the project to enhance effectiveness in achieving business results and strategic intent.

  • Influence decisions based upon an understanding of the project and commercial drivers and contribute to the implementation plan.

  • Guide the internal approval process through the technical and business evaluation process to achieve the required outcomes.

  • Implement the project in accordance with approved parameters (HSE, scope, quality, budget, schedule etc) to deliver an operating asset.

  • Work closely with key stakeholders to continually understand and update business critical project deliverable.

  • Focus commercially and follow a rigorous problem-solving methodology to deliver solutions to critical issue and deliver the highest value for the organisation.

  • Manage and guide the owners' representative team and other specialist teams to meet the critical project outcomes and overall strategy.

  • Effectively manage project interfaces by leading and continuously collaborating with the appropriate stakeholders. Guide and support the team in their management of stakeholder relationships.

  • Proactively resolve performance, scope, cost, and schedule issues with contractors as they arise.

  • Within given parameters, ensure the right systems and processes are in place, and applied in the contracts and project.

  • Deliver on tight timeframes with clear measurable results, with effective control of contractor variations.

  • Manage and monitor project performance to continuously improve and take pre-emptive actions.

  • Follow rigorous project management methodologies, aligned to the Capital Management Framework (CMF) to ensure successful delivery of the project including the management of regional issues and mitigation of risks.

  • Provide HSEC leadership by anticipating current and future risks and managing these, setting and monitoring objectives to ensure standards are met, and leading by example to set an appropriate safety culture.

    Proven ability in leading the planning and implementation of multidisciplinary capital projects in the mining and metals' industry - minimum of 10 years of experience as a project manager.

  • Demonstrated commitment to HSE management in a project / construction environment.

  • Sound experience in a project contracts environment.

  • Sound commercial acumen.

  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve where complex analysis and technical evaluation is guided by precedents.

  • Adaptable to changing environmental and construction / execution complexities and still deliver the project within accepted parameters.

  • Experience ing capital project management methodologies, such as project shaping and framing, value engineering and constructability reviews.

  • Sound team-leadership, organization, communication, problem-resolution, and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to relate to and collaborate with varied groups of people from a variety of technical and organizational backgrounds., College/University Education: Relevant tertiary qualifications required, preferably in Engineering, or Business.

  • Other Qualifications: Project Management qualification (PMI - PMP; Prince2)

  • Certifications: Member of professional body, especially in project management is preferable.

  • Skills: Well developed computer literacy, specifically project management program suites
