At The Myton Hospices, we provide specialist care and support for people with life-limiting illnesses, and their loved ones, from the point of diagnosis to end of life.

We are a much-loved and well supported charity, at the heart of our community. We have three hospices, a range of community services, and 25 charity shops in Coventry and Warwickshire.

About the role

We have over 850 amazing volunteers and without them our work wouldn't be possible.

We are exploring ways in which we can provide practical support and companionship to people living with or caring for someone with a life-limiting illness in their own home.

We are looking for someone with a passion for volunteering to support our Associate Director of Service Development and Improvement to design, develop and implement our new Myton community-based service.

You will be based at either our Coventry or Warwick Hospice with the opportunity to work from home on occasion. You will be travelling across Coventry and Warwickshire including to community locations.

This role is available as either a part time or full time role and the hours will usually be within office hours from Monday to Friday (+ occasional weekends or bank holidays)., As a Project Volunteer Coordinator you will work to develop a team of community support volunteers and will be responsible for their recruitment, induction, training and ongoing support and management., Working directly with the Associate Director ofService Development and Improvement, the postholder will support the design, developmentand implementation of a new Myton community-based support service for thosepeople living with / or caring for someone with a life limiting illness in theirown home.

The Volunteer Coordinator willwork to develop a team of community support volunteers and will be responsiblefor their recruitment, induction, training and ongoing support / management.

Ensuring a positive experience for all volunteers and those we support.

During the 'pilot' phase of the project, the VolunteerCoordinator will support the delivery and coordination off the communityvolunteer service including the management and supervision of volunteers,receiving referrals and matching volunteers to people with a life limitingillness and / or the carers.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Service Development :

  • Support the Associate Director of Service Development and Improvement to research existing community-based services both locally and nationally.

  • Review patient feedback to determine the requirements of the new service and how this can best be delivered through volunteer roles.

  • Contribute to the planning of the 'pilot' phase to implement the new service.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of relevant policies and procedures in relation to the community-based volunteering service.


  • Recruitment & Selection :
  • Work directly with the Associate Director of Service Development and Improvement and Head ofVolunteering to establish the tasks that could be undertaken by volunteers and develop role descriptions.

  • Liaise with marketing andthe volunteering department to support with the planning and implementation ofinnovative and engaging volunteer recruitment campaigns.

  • Develop community linksand partnerships to ensure that our opportunities have a wide reach

  • Attend community andMyton events to recruit new volunteers (this may involve some occasionalevening and weekend working)

  • Work closely with theVolunteering department to recruit, induct and support new volunteers.


  • Induction & Training :
  • Plan induction and ongoing training to ensure that each volunteer has all of the right skills and tools to provide the support needed in a community setting.

  • Support the Head of Volunteering and Clinical Education Team to develop mandatory training solutions for newly appointed community support volunteers.


  • Volunteer Support and Supervision :
  • Provide regularsupervision opportunities for volunteers, through a range of face-to-face,telephone and group supervision sessions

  • Work with other volunteercoordinators to ensure that the volunteers are effectively managed andsupported.

  • Gather feedback fromvolunteers on their Myton experience

  • Respond to and helpresolve volunteering concerns and safeguarding issues as determined by thehospice policies and procedures

  • Work with volunteeringdepartment to establish self-support and in-built leadership structures withinthe new volunteering teams created to expand the reach of Community services


  • Reward and Recognition :
  • Support in the delivery of appropriate reward and recognition for volunteers

  • Ensure that managers across the charity are aware of and utilising the reward and recognition resources available


  • Monitoring and Evaluating Volunteering :
  • Maintain up to date volunteer records on the charity's volunteer management system

  • Provide reports on volunteer data and impact for the new community service

  • Use evaluation data from project stakeholders to further develop the service

    It is a requirement ofemployment with Myton that all staff must comply with the obligation ofconfidentiality relating to personal information that could identifyindividuals.

    The Data Protection Act 1974 / 1998 safeguards the handling ofinformation held in both electronic and manual filing systems and it is theduty of all staff employed by Myton to uphold the principles of the Act, adhereto Myton policies and to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

    Infection Control

    All employees of Myton must be aware of infection prevention and control policies and are expected to follow them at all times.

    Any breach of infection control policies which places patients, visitors or colleagues at risk may result in disciplinary action.

    Health & Safety

    Employees must be aware of the responsibilities placed upon them under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, to ensure the agreed safety procedures are carried out to maintain a safe working environment for patients, visitors & colleagues.

    The post holder is required to conform with Mytons policies on Health & Safety and Fire Prevention, & to attend related training as required.

    Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children

    Its the duty of all staff working for Myton to safeguard children and vulnerable adults and undertake safeguarding training at an appropriate level.
