Full Job Description

Are you an enthusiastic and dedicated CBT Therapist or Clinical / Counselling Psychologist? Are you looking to progress and develop your clinical and leadership skills within an important new area of service transformation? If so, why not join us to be part of the transformation of community mental health services, working closely alongside other Psychological Therapists and advanced mental health practitioners as part of our Mental Health Integrated Community Teams, and in close partnership with the Voluntary Sector. You will be involved in the delivery and planning of a variety of online and / or in-person psychoeducational and therapy groups for significant mental health difficulties, including leading on the facilitation and the delivery of a Managing Emotions Group programme alongside a Voluntary Sector partner. You will have opportunities to contribute to the wider psychological therapies provision depending on your interests, including within the Community Mental Health Psychological Therapies services, as well as providing supervisory input to junior psychological staff. You will be well supported and supervised by a Psychologist, and will work within a dynamic, people-centred environment, where you will be able to shape and improve provision for patients with complex conditions. Your base for this role can be in Reading or Wokingham, although a significant proportion of the service delivery will be online Main duties of the job To work as part of a team to support and enhance the psychological care of adults with significant mental health issues in primary care. To support and lead on the delivery of a group Managing Emotions Programme and other group programmes for people with emotional regulation difficulties and SMI across Berkshire, together with holding a caseload of clients requiring individual CBT for SMI. To liaise and work closely in partnership with a Voluntary sector provider in jointly delivering and facilitating the group programme To participate in the implementation and development of system-wide mental health services that will contribute to improved experience for people with serious mental health problems in primary care. To provide, supervise and support specialist psychological assessment and treatment, formulation and consultation to clients and staff within the clinical team and system to which the post-holder is attached, across all sectors of care., The must haves for you to be considered for this role

Post graduate qualification in CBT or doctoral qualification in Clinical / Counselling Psychology (or equivalent) or Advanced Mental Health Practitioner with significant experience in psychoeducational CBT-based interventions Accreditation with BABCP or Registered with Health Care & Professions Council (HCPC) Experience and interest of working in mental health multidisciplinary teams / multi-agency environment as well as experience of teaching / training of health care professionals Evidence of specific psychological training in working with clients with significant mental health difficulties Knowledge of working with clients with emotion regulation difficulties,

  • Postgraduate Diploma qualification in a Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) or equivalent
  • To have undertaken a qualification in one of the core mental health professions recognised by BABCP with associated professional registration including : -Nursing qualification and registration as RMN or RNLD -Social Worker -Occupational Therapy -Other mental health professional training that has been accepted by HCPC, BPS or BABCP
  • OR Evidence of having achieved and completed the Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes (KSA) KSA portfolio route to BABCP Accreditation
  • Accreditation with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP) or meets criteria for accreditation and working towards accreditation with BABCP.
  • Experience Essential
  • Experience in completing CBT assessments, formulations and interventions in a specialist healthcare or secondary care community mental health setting
  • Experience of providing, and adapting where necessary, CBT assessments, formulations and interventions with service users relevant to the service area.
  • Experience of providing CBT (assessment, formulation, and treatment) with services users (and their carers / families) presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the range of settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Experience of dealing with highly distressing or emotional circumstances, such as serious mental illness, child and sexual abuse, exploitation, and complex family dynamics
  • Experience of autonomously managing a caseload in a community mental health setting.
  • Experiencing of working with complex situations concerning safeguarding and risk management
  • Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team and multi-agency environment
  • Experience of delivering group interventions
  • Experience of working with, and addressing issues of diversity, including experience of working with diversity, multiculturalism, and equality of access to service.

  • Experience of providing clinical supervision, mentoring or providing structured guidance to other staff

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Essential
  • Demonstrable knowledge of CBT theory, principles, and techniques as well as evidence-based practice, relevant to the service area knowledge of complex presentations and serious mental illness for CBT posts in adult secondary care services and CAMHS; knowledge of time limited and accessible treatment for depression and anxiety presentations for CBT posts in CAMHS Getting help services
  • Ability to complete clear and detailed CBT assessments and collaboratively derived formulations of a service users' presentation using standardised measures and deliver a treatment plan, modifying the treatment plan as needed.
  • Knowledge and understanding of service evaluation, audit and research and completing this in the NHS.
  • Awareness of other therapeutic modalities and their integration with CBT for comprehensive treatment planning
  • Skills in delivering individual and group therapy sessions using CBT techniques to address diverse mental health needs
  • Ability to manage difficult situations with service users that have complex presentations and / or challenging behaviours and to manage a demanding and complex caseload.
  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, technical and / or sensitive information to service users, their carers / families and other professional colleagues, both within and outside the NHS
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to support, influence and engage with clinicians, stakeholders and service users to create change and improvement
  • The ability and skills to act as an advocate for the service, to engage and foster good professional relationships with all health professionals in promoting the good integration of this service with the wider health care system.
  • Advanced IT skills and the ability to navigate various systems and software packages (such as RiO, Outlook, databases, MS office / Teams, One Consultation and the internet).

  • Evidence of specific training, experience and / or interest and knowledge in psychological models and therapeutic approaches relevant to post service users with significant and severe mental health difficulties / children and adolescents
