Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to work in Paediatric Psychology across Co Durham and Darlington. You will be joining an enthusiastic and dynamic team of Clinical Psychologists and another Psychology Assistant, as well as work alongside Consultant Paediatricians, Specialist Nurses, Paediatric Dietitians, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists., Working under the supervision of Clinical Psychologists, the post holder will support the provision of psychologically informed care for children and young people who have been diagnosed with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. They will also contribute to the assessment of children and young people presenting with, or suspected of having, a neurological illness/injury, as well pre-school children who are undergoing an assessment for Autism., The post holder will work under the supervision of Clinical Psychologists.

In Paediatric Diabetes, responsibilities will include supporting the assessment of mental health and wellbeing and working with the multi-disciplinary team to support children, young people and their families to adjust to and manage diabetes. The role will also entail service evaluation and involvement in service improvement.

In Paediatric Neuropsychology, responsibilities will include conducting and producing reports for school, clinic and nursery observations, contributing to neuropsychological assessments, assessments of mental health and wellbeing and adjustment, participation in multi-agency meetings (including pre-school Autism Assessments) and supporting service development.

The post is across the County Durham and Darlington area, with clinics offered in four hospital sites: Chester Le Street, Durham, Bishop Auckland and Darlington, alongside two TEWVs sites: Sedgefield Community Hospital and Stanley Primary Care Centre. Nursery and school observations are a key part of the role. Due to the nature of the role, it is essential applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes. If necessary, adjustments can be considered in accordance with the Equality Act 2010.

Although based in County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, the post forms part of Children and Young People's Services in Tees, Esk & Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust has a good reputation for the professional development of psychological professionals.
